Hello everyone. I just recently bought a scooter (Jinlun Sunny JLQT50) online for a hell of a deal. The seller had lost her key a while ago so when I picked it up, it had sat around for ~3-4 months not being used. I put in a new ignition switch and that's when I noticed all these problems.
- There is a weird electrical problem with either the switch (which is new) or the scooter. When I engage the ignition, the scooter turns OFF. When I take out the key, the thing turns back ON. It's totally backwards. I know I've connected the switch correctly as it will only fit one way, so I'm lost on this one. - Once I turn over the engine, it will idle pretty well. The moment I give it gas, though, the whole thing dies. I've put new high octane gas in the tank already.
I've heard a lot of different theories as to why this could be happening. Someone said my fuel filter could be clogged... some said that both problems are due to an electrical short. I don't know if there is a kill switch or not so I'm not sure about that.
Can you guys point me in the right direction? I haven't even been able to ride it yet, so is there a good troubleshooting tutorial to start somewhere? Thanks for your help!

The very first thing to do is find which wires are crossed and switch them around. Obviously the new ignition switch has 2 wires that are opposite from the plug on the scooter. Very next thing to do is go straight to the heart of the motor (check compression). To have an easy cranking good running 50cc 139qmb you want 170psi at the very lowest and it needs to pump up to that in 6-7 rotations while the compression gauge is on it. Fuel filters and the ocean tides and praying to the gods above will not help one bit if compression is low. Anything else you do before the 2 things above are done is just tail chasing and believe you me I have racked up thousands of miles of wrench time chasing mine lol. The very 1st thing i do on a scooter before I even make an offer on it is check compression. If one that comes to me for repair is hard to start or bogs I check compression...even if its a new scooter because if thats not good....nothing will help it. Ever.
