Jonway 50cc 4t- Ok, so I've done some minor mods in the last week. 6g sliders, Uni air filter; 88 main, orange cdi, and Iridium plug. It seems a little faster but I've had to adjust the fuel/air mixture to only 1/2 turn out, otherwise it bogs when I crack the throttle. Do I need to change the pilot jet? I also.just ordered 2k springs for the clutch and a 1.5k for the single spring. Wondering if the springs are going to be too heavy or if they will work fine. Any help.would be.appreciated. oh yeah I weigh 170lbs.

No. you need to put your stock jet back in and recheck.
The 78 to 88 is a big jump. You may not really need to upjet (esp that much) for just removing your airbox. after all a 49cc can only pump 49cc. so even removing the airbox may not actually increase flow that much.
if you put a larger pilot in there, then it wont idle either. I had to go back stock pilot with my 50mm and have a .95 main that will be going back to an .88 as the .95 is WAY rich.
so my engine is 60% larger than yours and you need the same jetting? it seems to me everyone yells "UPJET!!!" like it is the fix all and it gets you 5 more HP just by doing it. it will help if you need it... but it sounds like you STOCK bike does not need a NON-STOCK jetting.
just because someone thinks jet configuration X works for them, it may not for you.

What does a compression test say? Are we working with a good tight motor? What does a plug reading show? white? tan? black? What pilot is in it now is it marked?
a 1500 torque spring will require heavier rollers than what you have now. 2k clutch springs it will have to spin way up to take off which might work out okay...might not. seems its always different on each motor with those.

My 82cc is perfect with a 95. I had a 63cc here i did the top end on and it needed a 95 to run right too...and it had 190 psi compression. I have a brand new 72cc motor here that had to have a 95 main with the stock air filter to run right. I had another new 72cc with a uni filter that was perfect with an 88. You are right jetting is never the same from one bike to the next.

I thought a 78 to an 88 sounded like quite a jump but that's what scrappydogs recommended. I'm going to put the stk jet back in tommorow and recheck the plug like you said. Right now its black.....just the way I like em....lol.

So does the 72cc kit make a lot of difference on power?? I'm gonna wait til winter and then do a big bore kit. I want it to smoke the tires.....Lol. Do you think I should do the 72 or 80cc kit ?

its way rich then obviously. Do a 50mm kit if you want to run 50+mph.

YES, go 50mm with the big head. when you install it make sure you use conventional oil during break in and DRIVE THE PISS OUT OF IT for the first part of break in. its way rich then obviously. Do a 50mm kit if you want to run 50+mph. im still only at 41mph.i went faster stock! but like i said, im still to rich. LOTS of low end though! i think mine has a cat in it though. i might have my muffler guy open it with his plasma and remove it if i have one.

You will ruin the rings if its too rich so dont run it until you get the jetting right.

Break-in is sometimes a hotly disputed topic. I used to have the mindset of the soft break-in but after more experience with these motors and the smart guys on this forum a hard break-in is def. the way to go....with dino oil as you said. i did 1200-1500 (?) miles with dino oil then went to amsoil. 4500 miles now and still has 195psi compression.

Ok I rejetted back to stock. Do I need to clean all the crap off the plug or just go buy a new one? Cleaning it wont hurt, but it will clean itself really. Do you have an Iridium? if not, go ahead and get one. That will help much more than a jet change will.
