I have a guy here in town that had bought a TaoTao with a sealed carb...and naturally it burned the rings up in less than 1500 miles. It would have died soon anyway though. Ever known someone who was just plain unlucky with machinery...and hard on them to boot? Thats this guy. Anyway, he bought one of my secret 72's and was happy as a pig in slop. He comes by one day...I forget what for...and i checked his oil. When i took the stick out..oil came pouring out.
He said 'yeah it wasnt reading on the stick and was running slow so I filled it up'.
Well.....a week later it had about 70 psi compression. Where did the oil go? It was not leaking and was not burning.
He pays me to do a ring job...and it always bothered me about the missing oil.
2 weeks later he said the motor came to a screeching halt. barely 50 psi compression. IT HAS NO OIL IN IT.
Upon taking the plug out to do the compression test I look at the plug. Perfect tan color with clean electrode. NO OIL on the plug. The drain plugs are in...and the motor is not leaking anywhere.
So he pays me to do a motor swap with one of my 82cc reman. motors.
WHERE did the oil go?
Turns out someone who has a grudge against him has ADMITTED to sneaking up late at night to his secluded apt and pushing the bike into the bushes, took the dipstick out and laid the bike over to dump the oil out. TWICE. Makes me want a locking dipstick. Could also put some white-out on the dipstick where it meets the case to make a line....to see if its been tampered with. If the line is broke you know the stick has been removed. (Shops use yellow stuff like that called tamper-seal..so when someone comes back wanting a free motor claiming there is no oil in it....you know if the plug has been removed after the oil change was done, and believe me Ive had people try that.)
Check your oil like its and OCD habit and keep it locked to a power pole...if you have enemies!
