I have polished aluminum wheels that I want to get powder coated black instead of painted . I clean them at least once a week as I hate for it to be dirty and not shiny clean .
I bought a Jonway Magnum that came with the wheels powder coated black with a red stripe on the rim and love them . I have gotten many compliments on them . To me black wheels look better than chrome or raw finish , plus give a ride some attitude .
I have access to a glass bead blaster box as sand pits aluminum and glas can remove any film and make items look like new . I know I have to remove the tires , degrease the wheel and glass bead or soda blast before taking to a guy who powder coats to have them ready to do and save on labor charges .
I have seem some kits on tv that used a oven to heat up the parts and melt the powder coating . I am pretty sure heat will damage the wheel bearings and grease so hopefully they can come out easy as I have yet to take it apart and see . The valve stems will also be removed .
Would like to hear from anyone who has done this themselves or prepped the wheels like I plan on , along with results .

Forgot to ask about anodizing as an option instead of powder coating . Anodizing is like electroplating sorta with the color all through instead of a coating like paint

w do powder coating at my work. Any part that cannot withstand 400* temps will be ruined. All paint and grease and grime should be removed prior to painting. Most likely the shop will clean them with mek or something before painting. Yes the grease and wheel bearing will need to be removed. Even if they can take the heat there is a chance the grease will thin and run down the part during coating and ruin the part and contaminate the oven
