i decide while the cpi is down for the count i would put in bbk on the vento, got it all hooked up and really didnt have much time to tune, it shut off a couple of times really didnt feel like a soft size though, well i got home at dark nice and cool by then and took it out again and it is riding much better, so do i need more air or less since it did better in the cool damp air

Any time it's it's shutting off I'd start on the rich side, since that's the safe side.
The cool damp air is kinda confusing, to me at least. The cool air is good for performance, because it's more dense so it packs in more oxygen to burn. The moist or humid air is actually less dense. So cool air should require a larger jet, while moist air should require a smaller jet. When I rode yesterday I knew my carb was jetted a step rich and I expected to run great leaving in the cool air. Turns out it ran like crap till it heated up and the air dried out. It was definitely rich from CHT readings, feel, and sound when it was cool out and the air was more humid. Makes it kinda tricky when you are dealing with 2 variables with opposite effects and unless you understand how to analyze both accurately, it's prob easier just to go with starting out rich to be safe and if that doesn't work try going leaner.
