So I went to look at this scooter last night, he was wanting $150 for it.. Its a 2008 with a 1P39QMA motor in it.. I tried to kick start it, he said the only thing wrong was the electric ignition, but it wouldnt start, so I offered him $65 and got it... Got it home, checked to see if the petcock on the fuel was working, it was. Checked the plug for spark, it worked.. Seems to have good compression, but still wont kick over... Anyone have any ideas of what it could possibly be? Help would be greatly appreciated.. Thanks in advance

needs a carb cleaning..and if its been sitting for a long time kick starting it will be difficult even with a new carb.

Well the guy said he kickstarted it last week and it ran fine.. So I'm stumped.. I changed the plug last night, then grounded it, to make sure the coil was firing, and it had a pretty blue spark.. Any other ideas?

I know that something is wrong with the electric starter, but I want to make sure the motor will atleast start before I start diagnosing, and spending more money... I know on my 139qmb, I could take the cvt cover off, and start it with a drill and a nut driver adapter.. basically spin the variator with the drill and fire it up.. Think I will try that when I get home from work today.. All other ideas are greatly appreciated.. I think I will also try and switch cdi's with my scoot, and see if maybe that is it..

If it has been sitting for a long time I suggest you replace the gas and clean the carburetor. Old gas doesn't burn well.
A valve adjustment wouldn't be a bad idea either.

Ok I did a valve adjustment, and moved my battery from my jonway over to it.. Its turning over, getting fuel, and compression, but Now I have no spark, changed coils, and still nothing, any ideas on why I am not getting spark ?? Thanks again

Does it have a kill switch?
Try a different CDI

I did that too, I put swapped them from my jonway, and the jonway fired up with its cdi, but still wasn't getting anything on the baja..

and the killswitch is in the on position.. I also tried disconnecting it thinking maybe it was stuck in the off position internally

I'm still getting no spark and so I traced the coil wires to the cdi and right before it the green wire is soldered to three other wires.. The kickstand, the starter, and the enrichener? Is it supposed to be like that? if so what else could it be? If not how do I rewire it, anyone know where to get a wiring schematic? Thanks again everybody

The kickstand. Some scooters have a kill switch on the kickstand so it has to be folded in the up position for there to be spark.

It ended up being the killswitch.. I disconnected it from the cdi and it fired right up... Thanks everyone
