Hey Everyone! Well... It's about to begin... My 1999 pre-bug Yamaha Zuma is about to have a major renovation. Below are pictures of how he looks right now. From what 2strokd told me, the owner before him ran it into a pole. :crash: And, there are a couple of other issues that I want to address, as well. Overall, though - it's an incredibly reliable and mechanically sound scoot. I honestly couldn't be happier with it from that stand point. I also really wanted a project scooter for a couple of reasons. The first reason was strictly economics. I was too scared to buy a Chinese scoot and I couldn't afford a brand new high-end scoot. So, I needed to buy a used high-end scoot that was in need of some TLC. And, the deal that I got from 2strokd was REALLY good! The other reason was because I can't wait to get started! I love a good reclamation project. Though, this will be the first time trying to renovate something mechanical. The most I've done in the past is renovate either antiques or yard sale finds. LOL So, poor Zippy will have to endure my tinkering. This is the front end. A closer view There's no covered storage. As this is a daily driver, this will need to be addressed, as well. Poor, poor Zippy.... Here, you can see how the headlights are forever pointing to the stars. Zippy's a dreamer! A close up of the floor board damage. The owner before 2strokd lost the keys. So... that person purchased an ignition system for a lawn mower at Rural King. This will need to be changed out. The speedometer doesn't work, and I'm not too wild about the look, either. It sort of reminds me of something from a 1985 Chevy Cavalier. This cover was actually riveted on. LOL I had to drill it out before I could change the spark plug. Poor Zippy... There's a leak coming from the air box. This will obviously be corrected, as well. Let me know your thoughts!! Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend either, although I can't comment on shipping to you as I live much closer to them. Also worth trying easyparts.nl

I think they both are about the same??? I used Scooterattack for my last order on the newer site. $140 for parts and 35 to ship it. Not bad for what i got IMO. Ide recommend both

Ishigham - It doesn't look like easyparts ships to the U.S. - but I did send an email asking, just to make sure.
2strokd - the more the merrier. :-D i love having a lot of options for places to buy from. i'm ALWAYS up for checking out webstores!

I have the same scooter, only mine's a '97, officially an antique.
you can see how the headlights are forever pointing to the stars
I have mine set cross-eyed, for all the good they are.
This cover was actually riveted on.
The locking tabs break off for fun.... it's either rivets, or Velcro. If you install a suspension lifting block (in the rear..... to put more weight on the front end) the spark plug becomes accessible from the side.
I'm not too wild about the look (speedometer)
Mine's different, being in kilometers, and actually not too bad. When the scooter pi55es you off don't fling the seat up or it will break the plastic speedometer surround panel.
There's a leak coming from the air box.
Your carb is leaking: If it is oil, you give it a new oil pump, because the check valve is worn out. If it is gasoline, you need to invest in a new petcock. Horrendously expensive from Yamaha (for the vacuum unit), I haven't had any luck with the aftermarket units. A manual one for a Yamaha Raptor fits the tank.

The only time Zippy has pissed me off so far is when he wouldn't start. Thus, the saga of the spark plug replacement. I have a sneaking suspicion that almost everything is pretty original. So, on my list of repairs is going to be a new reed block and probably a new carburetor to make Zippy even zippier. :scoot2: As far as putting the suspension block on to lift it, I was actually thinking about fabricating a stretch kit. Have you ever attempted this or looked into it? I looked online, and there doesn't seem to be one for a 50cc Zuma w/ a vertical engine like ours. I also want to change out the seat, because where I sit, the bump hits exactly where my tailbone is..... :censored: I saw this awesome handle bar set that has everything on it. I'm probably going to use that one. That'll kill 2 birds with one stone as far as the look and functionality.

I think it is the original seat. It has "YAMAHA" across the back, but you can't see it because the security chain is across the back deck.
He has seen better days, but he's about to see even better ones if I can get done all that I wanna do. :riding:
I really can't wait to get started! I just need to pull the trigger and start ordering his stuff. :itshere:
:wheelie:

This is the area where the vertical motor is "choked up".
The stock intake manifold is really restricted and the small 2 petal reed block is kind of small.
But, it is here, that you have to have a "decision time".
There are aftermarket reed blocks that flow better than stock, and manifolds that work better than stock, but they come in two sizes: slightly bigger than stock, and huge.
Slightly bigger is good for a mild build, and huge is good for an all out effort, but the huge stuff is not suited for mild.

Aerox - i can believe it. this thing (with all that it may have been through) still eats hills alive and is so much fun to ride. I can't wait to make it look as good as it should
