I road Skeedr up to the store earlier and when leaving i went to hit the start button and the battery was almost dead . So i kick started him up and road home. On the way i noticed that my headlight was dim and the turn signals were getting slow. I figure that the stater is shot because the battery was totally dead and i started it up w/o the battery in and checked the voltage, it was only putting out 4 volts at idle and if i reved it at all i would drop to 0 volts. That pretty much means my stater is bad right? Just want a second opinion.

I believe the rectifier/regulator can cause similar problems as well, so you may wanna check 'em before buying anything. The 139QMB scoot you have around probably has the same rectifier/regulator as your scoot. You could swap it in and see if the voltage changes. If not, get a stator. There are test procedures and specs in the service manual too if you'd rather try those. Zip R3i Service Manual

Witch one of these is the regulator? The first pick is from under the seat, the second is from under the front panel. The one on the scoot im working on wont work. I looked at the stater and it looks good(no burn marks, or cut wires), i also took all the plastic off and checked the wiring and all looks well. I was thinking about what might have caused this other than just worn out parts. The only thing i did different than usual was run with my brights on for 2 nights because the low beam was flickering on and off and with the high beam(brights) on i would stay lit so i just assumed the bulb was bad.

The first pic is your CDI. You have a different style of regulator than my scoots. All 4 of the ones in my garage use the same 4 prong regulator and the 4 stroke midbikes all used the same style. That sucks. I'm not an electronics dude. I can tell you that nothing you did needs to cause an electronic failure. No need to try and figure that out. Electronics fail in an instant with no warning a lot. Just gotta do some testing and figure out what is wrong.

I found a very similar rectifier at my cousins house. He has a bunch of old motorcycles and parts for them. If this one doesnt work i did find one just like mine on ebay. Do you know if stator off the scooter i was working on is the same or not? Probably hard to tell right? I guess i will have to check it out, that is if i get this thing or not. Its just sitting in my garage for now. Thats ok though cause i really dont have the money to spend on it at the time. Im not gonna go taking parts off it until i know its mine. At least i can still ride. I still have been unplugging my headlight during the day. All seems well, so far a havent even had to charge the battery. Maybe i better double check the charging system, that would be sweet if it was just a bad connection or something. Maybe the charging system is just weak and couldnt keep up with my brights on? I know when i checked it it was only 4volts at idle then dropped to 0 when i gave it gas. That was w/o a battery though and the manual says to check the charging with a good charged battery. Then my cousin says it shouldnt even run w/o the battery. I tried to explain to him that they dont need a battery to spark, but im not sure he understood, his old KZ has been upgraded to electronic ignition so if the battery is dead it wont run. He thinks that is how our scooters are.

The stator on a 139qmb should be different than a 1e40qmb stator. The 139qmb uses at least 3 different stators according to PFS anyway.

Good news! I went out and checked my battery and it was still holding 12volts so i started Skeedr up and low and behold at idle he was pumping 13volt and as soon as i gave it throttle it jumped to 14volts. I guess i had a bad connection or the regulator stuck or something. Or like i said maybe the high beams suck to much for my in town stop and go.?. Im just happy its charging now, i will keep an eye on it and probably give ie a few more days w/o a battery charger to see what happens. Oh yeah, and i will pick up a new headlight also.
