My wife mostly has been riding my RX8 lately. We have been running it with a bad battery for at least 3 months, and it runs great, and kick starts easily. We rode it last night with no problems. I picked up a new battery for it, and put it in today. I took it for a test ride and it would not run right, it was way lean. I turned the air screw just over 1/2 turn in , and got it back to it's old self. Did the new battery give me hotter spark, causing it to lean out? I just don't know.

Could be just that, the new battery aint sucking up juice like the old one did, leaving more power from the magneto to feed your ignition.

The magneto has several leads.....one is for charging the battery only...one is for your CDI...and the other runs your lighting. Therefore there is no correlation between the battery and anything else.....it has it's own system in relation to the magneto and all other parts. I ride customers scoots(that are to cheap to buy a battery) with no battery in them at all....kick start and go. Makes no difference in how they run. If your weather has been like ours here....very hot and humid....that may be the problem. Hot humid air carries less oxygen than cold dry air.

I'd agree that it could very likely be weather changes. High humidity causes rich conditions. The moisture in the air displaces some of the oxygen. The heat has a smaller effect. It does change air density. Hot air is less dense, so you would run more rich. Cold air is more dense, so you'd run leaner than usual. I think the worst effect of heat is just from the engine running hotter in many cases. These air cooled engines already run quite hot. Not to mention the CVT heats up more too, then your clutch and contra springs will fade easier so the engine struggles more to rev.

Maybe your enricher works better, faster now? I think you might be on to something. I understand what everyone has said about humidity/temperature. But I do not think the weather changed overnight enough to cause this much of a change. I said earlier I turned the air screw just over 1/2 a turn, but it was really more like just over 3/4 of a turn. I really feel like somehow the new, properly working battery somehow is responsible. The scooter had been fine until the moment I put the new battery in. No worries though, I took it on a pretty good ride , tweaked the carb halfway through the ride, and I think it is good. I am still trying to get my arms around understanding how to tweak these things. I guess I really need to do a plug chop.

the weather can absolutley change enough overnite to make you have to play with idle screw. back in my sand drag days, the weather would sometimes change enough too make me hafta swap jets

As an example of how quickly weather changes can affect your tune... I took a long ride recently, about 200 miles. When I left in the morning the humidity was very high. The scooter ran rich to the point that it would sputter at times and the throttle often felt "soggy" as I call it... didn't respond well. As the sun rose and the air dried out, within a couple of hours into my ride it was running very well again.

Trust me on this...and ask any mechanic on here...Not to be pompous...but no chance. The battery ONLY starts the scoot and powers the gauges. Power to your ignition comes from a separate wire...and its' own wind from your stator. As I said..customers bring scoots in with NO battery I replace the broken part..cables...bulbs...brake cyl etc....then kick start it...with NO battery and ride it all over town... Somebody chime in and back me on this? Hey guy...just trying to help you understand how your scoot works.....

I totally agree with usmcdoc. I have a customer that rides on private land and has no battery or lights.

No offense taken...I am 46 years old and APPRECIATE the voice of experience, but it sometimes takes a while to sink in. ;D My other scooter is fine, so i sorta assumed/reasoned that it had something to do with the battery. The weather here got a little hotter / drier over the night in question, so if anything, that should have caused a RICHER condition?
