Splitting the cases may be the smartest thing to do, so of course that's not what I did. I had a 52mm cylinder and piston around to use for another quick run. I liked the idea of running it so the pipe is connected too. Didn't have a wrist pin with the 52mm kit. The leftover from the last piston was too wide so I had to cut it down in the lathe. I just threw it together real quick with concern for nothing more than making sure it would run. I didn't even bolt it into the frame. I let it run for maybe 5 minutes with a fan blowing across it while I revved it intermittently. Then I took the cylinder kit off and it all looked fine. No evidence of debris. I looked in the cases with a flashlight again, just to be sure I didn't see anything. Then realized I have a cheap USB bore scope. Stuck that in there too. Blew compressed air through again, with the scope in there to make sure nothing moved into view. I can't find anything. Re-supply has arrived. Before even bolting the kit on, I knew that both pistons used previously have hit the crank at BDC so I marked the piston skirt where it sits past the cylinder skirts at BDC and cut them down. Having an intact version of the wrist pin bearing that destroyed my last cylinder around and a Wiseco B1042, I took a look at them side by side. Looks like the Taiwan bearing gets really thin in the center and the Wiseco doesn't. Taiwan bearing on left, Wiseco on right in all pics. I bolted the cylinder up and it looks pretty similar to what I had with the last one. Piston pretty much level with deck. Piston crown flush with transfers at BDC. I checked the durations and got 183 exhaust and 130 transfer. Last time I had 182/128. I ported the last cylinder to 188/128, but this time marked the exhaust port for 190 so it'll be 190/130. That's as far as I went so far. Bike Week starts Thursday. Would like to ride there, but I don't think that matters. Prob won't be ready. I'm guessing I'll end up having to find out why it was fouling plugs so bad just before the pin went. Prob won't matter if it is ready because tropical storm/hurricane Florence is predicted to affect the area starting Thursday. Whole weekend likely to be rain filled at least. May car show was washed out. Looks like the bike show will be washed out. I never saw anything about a turnout for an AWD/import meet this year. H20i, VW show, moved to New Jersey. Hopefully the fall classic car show in Oct won't be a wash out too so we'll have 1 good one this year... but the coppers will get to play with their "Special Event Zone" with huge fines if it's good weather.

That Wiseco bearing looks much more substantial than the Taiwan one. You can really see the difference side, by side. Should be well up to the job.

You're getting good at doing this. Soon you will be doing this with you're eyes closed.

As long as it's not breathing needle bearings, I'm happy.

Bike Week is a pretty definite no-go. At very least we'll be rained on all weekend from the sound of it. The organizers have posted that the hurricane can't stop them, because they've relocated stuff indoors. That'd be great if I cared about chromed out Harleys sitting on pedestals, but I don't think many will be out riding around and that's all I care about. Was hoping to giggle watching huge touring Harleys with comfy seats, tons of storage, and big engines come in on trailers while I rode the scoot down and around. At least I have some time to see if it's right before the car show. Endless Summer Cruisin' 2018 = October 4-7 Heck, that may even be enough time to destroy something again so it's back to holding down the workbench.

Pressure test sucked. Not leaking around the huge crack, but rather around the edges. Either way, not cool. This is why we do them though. Surely would have caused me problems. Maybe why my piston was clean after the wrist bearing failure?

That blows, literally. I going to guess that the epoxy is from opening up the case/breaking thru and making room for the oversize crank ?

Either crank cutting or trenching is my guess.

On the mina’s that is the area you fill when trenching the cases because you are very likely to break through the cases.
