Well that’s no fun. I don’t think I’ve ever had any issues with JB weld. I usually just use carb cleaner or whatever solvent is within arms reach. Can you just throw another coat over top? Maybe try a new package I’m not sure I’d trust that one any more. Maybe a bad batch or old...

My JB weld experiences. I use the regular stuff, not the 30 min version. I also like using a heat gun to make it flow better(thin syrup consistency), Just don't get it too hot that it bubbles. Only heat it a couple times, it will effect the cure rate(make it faster) To clean, I use lacquer thinner or acetone and blow it off with compress air before it dries on its own. Maybe sandblasting the area to make more surfaces for the JB weld to bond to.

It was 2 different packs of JB Weld (rarely use Kwik, never on cases). Both bought around May, but it was at the same time so I guess it could be something with the product. I did heat it the last time, just quickly till it seemed to thin a small amount.
I may just try taking a little off of the top and then adding another later instead of digging it all out. Can't be any less successful than what I've been doing.

I used Devcon once. The first cases I did. Can't recall exactly the type, but it was junk. So brittle compared to JB. It was recommended on some other forum long ago. Since, I've always used JB. I prob just had the wrong type. I don't see why JB can't work. Lots of thousands of miles on various cases filled with JB without issue.

I used jb on the 70mph daily's cases. Put a few 1000kms over about 3 years on those...100% leak free still.

Finally went and picked up supplies this morning. I'm probably 20 years behind, but I never realized JB Weld came in the combined syringe before. Figured I'd try it, after reading the package to make sure it wasn't a different product. It was about $1 more, but super fast to mix this way. I dug some of the old JB out and tried to get everything rough. I was done. Then I looked at it and decided to make 1 or 2 plunges deeper in the small section. Of course I plunged all the way through basically as soon as I touched it. Damn. Wouldn't have had to take anything apart if I didn't do that. I took the top end off and taped from the underside to avoid Welding the crankshaft in. I filled it way up. Used the whole pack, which is a lot considering there's probably 1/2 a pack in there already. I filled all the way over the perch for one case bolt and all. I hammered a paper towel chunk into the hole for the case bolt though, so it would stop JB near the top. I should be able to drill that out and carve enough room for the bolt quickly using a rotary tool. Trying to give it every chance I could to seal. Fingers and toes crossed; and if it fails this time I'll be cross.

I went in with a carbide burr to cut out an area over the bolt perch. Missed where I wanted to be the first time. Didn't want the hole to be big, so I refilled and tried again. Hit it closer that time to make a small opening just for the case bolt to fit. Bolted up the cylinder and pressure tested it later. It has a slow leak. Lost a few psi in 5 minutes. I can't find bubbles anywhere. I guess you can't really see too easily if the cylinder bore gasket leaks on these. Maybe could spray into the coolant ports and look in. Not gonna bother. When I took the cylinder off after the first time the cases leaked, the head stayed on the jug secure. I just left it. It's been secure till just when I was installing the cylinder today. It came free a little and I thought it may be an issue. Already had sealant on the base, so I just went with it hoping if it does leak I can just deal with the head after the base is cured.

I pressure tested the engine early. It held 6psi for 2 hours. Finally sealed up. That was easy. Got it back in the scooter, but then had other stuff to do. Just found out that H2Oi may be coming back to Ocean City, even though it was relocated to Atlantic City. I don't follow any social media unless you count the forum or YouTube, so I only found out because of local articles. Sounds like a lot of people don't care where the official event is, they're coming to OC to cruise the strip instead. www.delmarvanow.com/story/news/local/maryland/2018/09/19/ocean-city-rolling-out-special-event-zone-despite-h-2-ois-relocation/1356763002/If it is running well, I'll try to go... if the weather is decent. As of now, forecasts I've seen on TV are for rain all weekend. Can't trust those too much a week out though. Prob more likely that this turd won't run than that it rains the whole weekend. Kinda scared to go after hearing about $1,000 tickets for burnouts at the May car show. I have a hard time resisting burnouts if requested. lol Actually have a new set of tires here, but I knew it was a bad idea to put them on before the last car show.

I got it all buttoned up and took the first ride. I actually rode it easy for break in for a change... only because it did seize on me on the first ride on the last kit. Normally I'm WOT. I went about 1/2 throttle and let off a couple of times to coast down, then 3/4, and then I held it WOT and let off to coast. It started bogging, like something was seizing. Either the CVT or the engine. It restarted and ran fine, but I was easy on it. Not sure if the hotter 7 plug is just too much. 1st try with the 7 plug was when the wrist pin blew apart. Could be lean, but it ran great otherwise, right where I left off with it.
This was the first ride with a working coolant temp and CHT. CHT said max 296 (couldn't see in the dark). Coolant maxed around 145 after it was shut down, 120s-130s I think on the road. I thought there was supposed to be no point of CHTs on LC stuff, but if it always works that way there seems to be a reason to have it.
Here's a vid. Vid starts cruising maybe 30-40 and then WOT and let off. You'll hear that I was very happy when it died. Don't know if I've ever had one die while coasting like that from a soft seize.
I'll retorque some stuff tomorrow and look at the plug. Prob put an 8 back in. At least there was no clang, bang, stop from stray parts meeting a piston.

Also, sort of related and sort of not... first ride on any scooter in 4 weeks. After riding most of a 22 hour day during the 48 hours of Ruckus '18 and doing near 500 miles that day, my middle finger on my left hand went numb. I had that happen once before after playing guitar for about 3 hours straight a year or two ago. It lasted 2 weeks and went away. I've stayed off of all scoots and played 0 guitar thinking it may go away, but it hasn't. I can cut back guitar, but not scoots. Of course I also spend entirely too much time on a PC. Guessing it's carpal tunnel, but doctors are expensive and not nearly as fun as scooters.
Anyway, the real point is... it felt good to be on a scoot again. 4 weeks is a really long time for me in ~good weather.

Glad to see you back on the road again.
When I used to run a egt and a cht on the MHR and one of the cast LC builds I never got decent cht temps even though I had good egt. I could be head design or??? Either way happy to see you leaving smoke trails!

The plug doesn't really look super lean or hot to me, but then this wasn't a plug chop run. It came home low throttle for 2-2.5 miles. Not a huge mix ring at the very base, but you can see in the video the extent of the WOT it got. I put an 8 series plug in. Got out there early, but I think the rain started overnight. Rain through Tuesday, so I don't know if it will dry out long enough before then for a test run.
