The engine passed a leak test on the first attempt. That's a nice change from last time. The 2.6" Yoshimura exhaust springs work, and they're definitely stiffer than what I was using.
I found a puddle of oil yesterday and cleaned it up. It reappeared. My gas tank is leaking again. Without removing it yet, it doesn't look like there was more contact. If that's true, then the JB Weld just didn't bond well. I'm gonna work on that situation before the engine goes back in, so it's gonna be a bit.
So just in the last week I've had a head sealing issue, forks leaking, broken wrist pin bearing and the fuel tank leaking. Last time I tried to ride it the pipe cracked. Just before that the water pump tried to fall off. Just before that the case cracked. Add in all of the o-ring fails, breaking belts, ripping apart an OR pulley, crashing into a deer, and the fact that I've spent most of my time trying to figure out how I can ride it instead of actually riding it for the last year and a half. I must be absolutely insane to love this scooter as much as I do. lol

If you see some weird mofos popup anywhere in your life giving off that weird horror movie supernatural serial killer vibe and you don't kill them IMMEDIATELY, then it's your fault when they're some unstoppable rebel force later in the movie! Done now.

This update took longer than intended. Technical difficulties, plus I've been sick for the last week and looking at pics to be sorted and resized and uploaded at night kept getting put off for lack of energy/motivation. The gas tank was not only leaking again, but one of the mounting tabs was almost broken off. I really didn't want to weld the used gas tank. Aside from the fact that it's 22 gauge and I'd burn it up with the flux core, it's a gas tank. Not that it couldn't be done, but I had another idea. I've considered an aluminum tank for a long time, and figured I might as well go for it and make T2 even more "unique" (weird). I was looking at 6, 8 and 10" diameter tanks. I just happened to have a sprayer tank that matched the dimension of one 8" tank pretty well so I used it for mock up. With the rear tank mounts cut off and 2" of spacers pushing the tail light panel back, it looked like I could squeeze in an 8" tank. 10" could prob be done, but I didn't think it was necessary and the 6" tanks wouldn't give me the volume that I wanted without being really long (or wide for my scenario). Since the stock tank wouldn't be taking up space under the rear of the seat, I wanted to come up with a way to create more storage. Plus, I assumed I'd end up needing to cut out the box that I just made to hold 2 extra oil bottles on the back of the scoot. I made 3 different boxes out of cardboard to see what I liked and what worked and also cut out the stock front tank mounts. Once I had the design finalized, I got a 2'x2' sheet of 22 gauge steel and drew the pattern out on it. It's a trapezoid shaped box so one side will follow the frame and the other will go straight back and leave plenty of clearance for the shock mount and fuel hose. Cut with an angle grinder and cutting wheel. I bent all of what would be the top edges of the box so I wouldn't have sharp edges, and I thought it may make it a little more sturdy. Then I bent the rest of the pattern with steel bar and clamps and formed a box. I decided to rivet it together. No way I'm going through trying to flux weld 22ga for this. I made up a mount for one side in the lathe to space the box out from the frame and welded it on. The other side just uses a more simple tab mount with a nut welded to it. I try to set stuff up so I can bolt things on directly without fiddling with nuts as well. A little more trouble, but it makes the scoot easier to work on. Here's the box mounted. I can fit 6 8oz oil bottles, a water bottle, and have a little room left over. I cut out the old oil box. The tank showed up just the other day. It's an 8"x12" spun aluminum tank from www.spunaluminumgastanks.com . They sell multiple end cap styles ranging from domed to fairly flat. I asked them if all 12" long tanks were actually 12" or if they varied by end cap style. They said they stick to the stated length with all cap styles. For that reason, I ordered the flattest end caps, thinking it should hold more than a tank of the same length with domed ends even though IIRC they all said 2.5 gallon for 8"x12". Old tank was modified to 2.0 gallons from an original volume of 1.4. This has a vented cap and uses a 1/4" NPT thread for the outlet. I made up 3 2.5" extensions for the rear of the scoot, using black iron pipe with washers and flange nuts welded into one end. Then I made up two short mounts to be the rear mounts for the new tank brackets and welded all of that on. I was hoping the pipes would work for my rear camera mount, but I don't think they will. The sides won't work because of the turn signal locations and the center would leave the cam stuck behind my registration sticker. With the rear mounts in place, I need to figure out the front. I made a cross bar from an 1/8" thick flat bar and I plan to put a couple more of those little pipe mounts on there. That's where I am ATM.

I’ve heard of that company Spun Aluminium gas tanks, a lot of the shifter kart guys use them, they look to be of superior build and material quality.

The cap is disappointingly cheap Chinese in appearance. You know, that cheap chrome look with imperfections and such. They do sell aluminum caps for I think $40-50 and a locking cap for about the same price. I was looking at the locking cap, but it's a lot for a cap IMO. Otherwise, looks good. I read other reviews before I bought there and some said they were better than other tanks that they had used. They replied quickly to my inquiry about true sizes and shipping didn't take long.

I finished up the tank mounts, welded on a tab to mount the CDI and painted everything. I'll need to redo the tail light panel because I did a half ass job sanding it and it looks terrible. I installed a barb in the tank and a short piece of hose with a shutoff switch. Then I filled the tank, measuring what I put in. I stopped at 9000ml, which is roughly 2.4 gallons. It should hold 2.5 if filled all the way to the bottom of the short filler neck.

you need a tank that size with the trips you do. Fill it to the top. It will help with wheelies
