I got the mounting bracket done and painted it a few minutes ago. I tried to make a pretty small plate so you don't see much of the mount. I freehanded the curves by the large holes without actually marking the holes out to 18mm as they ended up. That was a bit of a mistake, because it came out asymmetrical and thin in one spot, but it didn't bother me enough to redo it. Can't really see it anyway. I made 2 sort of spacers for the mount on the lathe and countersunk the bolts. More terrible TIG to install them, but they're stuck at least. I used cheap M8x1.25 RH mirror mounts on amazon to let me bolt the bracket to the bars. I did have to remove the little handlebar brace to make it fit. Oh, and I installed new grips (old RH ripped when pushing it home after the piston failed) and used some Renthal Grip Glue. The glue was more expensive than the grips, but normally if I mark the grips to check the throttle position, the grip moves with use and my marks are off. I'm hoping this stops it.

looks good from here! Is the motor ready yet?

I took the first ride on T2 since melting the piston. Just a quick 5-6 mile test and warm-up so I can re-torque. I think I like the EGT. Max CHT wasn't that hot, as shown above, but that was part throttle. It was near that when I ran it up to about 70MPH a couple of times, but it shot up pretty quick somewhere around 1/4-1/2. The idle and starting still sucks with the 4-4 rod and the new piston. It has to idle high or it dies. Next for me is to work toward getting this EGT video finished (30min edited so far). Then I guess I'll be back to trying to figure out how I'm going to install the 2nd power jet. I dunno. I'm thinking about putting the DellOrto back on for now. I think I'm gonna take T2 to OC Bikefest to cruise the beach with tons of motorcycles. That's Sep 15-19. Then Endless Summer Cruisin' is Oct 7-10. I'd rather not be down thanks to the Lectron, but we'll see. There's more than enough to keep me busy with the TMAX. Between the Lectron and filming the TMAX, I haven't really rode this year. I rode T2 with Ryan during the last car show and maybe a couple of local rides while the Dell was on. That's been about it for my leisure rides this year. Everything else has been test rides and even those are few and far between.

You need a side bike. An off camera machine you don’t talk about ever to ride casually when you just want to get away.

You need a side bike. An off camera machine you don’t talk about ever to ride casually when you just want to get away. That's basically what the TMAX was supposed to be. Goes anywhere, too complicated and expensive to want to work on so I'll leave it alone. ...But then when I do work on it and think it can help someone, it ends up on video.

I cant believe you have decided to stick with the Lectron all this time. You are the patron saint of patience my friend. If it had been me tuning the Lectron I would have thrown it out months ago.
Why stick with it? Sure the Lectron has plenty of hypothetical advantages but those dont seem to matter if you cant ride the scooter without destroying *another* piston. I get the "ive come this far" mentality but you have given this carb a very fair shake and not seen results. At this rate I just want to see you back on the road where your main concern was blowing belts.

90GTVert: Are you thinking of comparing readings between CHT and EGT? (Hope so.)

Keihin 28mm pwk is the go to carb, cheaper and 100x better than lectron Honestly I wish I had just ordered the complete RC-One kit instead of piecing it together at this point. The VHST that comes with it obviously works or they wouldn't put it in the package and the package is a better deal than piecing it together. I did it because of the carb and ignition. Carb seems to be a bust so far. Ignition, who knows. If not for videos, I would have sold the Lectron long ago. Actually, I never would have bought it. I was totally happy with the 25mm PHBL and don't believe it will gain anything useful to me with another carb. Commenters wanted to see a bigger carb. I got one of the best out there if you read reviews. Now look at me. The only way that this can be justified is through possibly enlightening someone else to what a Lectron is really like with a custom application, and/or if it did ever work right and self-adjust well. When I go to the beach, I can get a carb right 70 miles away at home and it almost always needs an adjustment (usually just mix screw and idle speed works fine). I also think about Ryan going to TN earlier this year and his tune being so far off that it was rideable, but barely. The idea of a carb that doesn't suffer from that is pretty amazing. I'll be surprised if I even get to find out if it works like that at all though, because I'm not confident about the 2nd power jet. 90GTVert: Are you thinking of comparing readings between CHT and EGT? (Hope so.) Sort of. I'm about to see if it's feasible to record hundreds of data points from my first ride to map out what EGT and CHT did at different throttle positions for the purpose of demonstration at the end of my EGT vid. By record and map out, I mean sit in front of the computer for hours noting CHT and EGT at each interval and then manually enter them for graphing, hoping that it's something that can work on a video. If you don't see that at the end, I couldn't do it or wasn't willing to spend a month on it. This is one of those times when electronic logging sure would be nice. Otherwise, I'll keep an eye on them both. I know that you may see EGT drop and CHT rise when you experience detonation. Not really sure how useful both will be to me most of the time. EGT seems more useful to tuning and CHT seems more useful for engine stress and cooling overall. Honestly, trying to watch 3 temp gauges, tach and speedo on the first ride felt like a great way to crash and I'll be glad if I get to a point where I mostly trust it and can keep my eyes on the road.

Gauge fixation is bad for health. Do the E and C gauges have any output ports, perhaps with similar specs? My curiosity at the expense of your efforts is how fast changes happen to the two during as you said detonation. It seems really strange that a mixture change could be needed in the tiny air density difference between your place and the beach. Maybe forty feet of elevation?

It's not just elevation. Humidity can have a very noticeable effect too.
