Ok. So… call me addicted or crazy, but I want to do a little bit more to my boost my beloved Malaguti Phantom F12. Here's what I've had done so far: - 70cc Athena kit - Stock pipe replaced with a Leo Vince SP3 - Air filter replaced with an aftermarket foam thing - Stock carburetor drilled out from 12mm to about 17mm - Replaced both clutch and variator with performance model Result: Very peppy take offs - I can do wheelies. Top speed around 55 mph. Sometimes 60 mph if I have some time. Wish: I'm happy with the acceleration and take-offs now - but I'd love to have a little bit more top end. If I can easily get it to 60 mph instead of 55 I'd be happy camper (So I can go on freeway for short distances w/o embarrassments) What would be a good thing to do to get a little bit more top speed/power? Replace the drilled out carb with a new, bigger one? Should I get a racing pipe? Any ideas welcome. Thanks! // Martin

I think a bigger carb and intake and a reed cage with carbon fiber reeds and more flow area would help, but I don't know if it's gonna get you 5MPH or not. If you didn't care about doing wheelies, a new set of final drive gears would probably get you that extra speed.

With all due respect to Brent, I suggest a 'full' performance pipe.... like the 'Handmade' or 'ZX' in the Leo Vince line. Also carbon fiber reeds. Some roller tuning may ensue as a result of the pipe. Sound level may go up a little. Your carb is probably not holding you back that much. If you do decide to go bigger on the carb a 19mm is probably the way to go. I'm over-carbed with my 21mm on my relatively mild big bore cylinder. If that doesn't get you to where you want to be then you probably need a cylinder with more aggressive port timings. Longer gearing by itself at the rear may or may not get you more top speed. It depends on if your engine is putting out enough power to push that much air at that speed. One other thing that is a little harder would be to run without a head gasket and space up the cylinder at the base gasket the same amount as the missing head gasket (usually about 0.5mm). This would give you port timings for a bit higher revs.

Thanks guys - I don't understand a word of this, but I'll take your suggestions to someone who does

Anyone know what to search for to buy these "carbon reed cages"? I search on all kinds of online stores, but I'm not finding anything - any help appreciated. Is it called something else?
My mechanic says "just order it and I'll install it".... but I'm having problem even finding it .... hehe sorry I'm pretty clueless!
