I had a topic of this over at SD. My scooters have the "emissions feature" which was probably put on to earn the glorious California C.A.R.B approval. It appears to be a system that takes some exhaust and sends it back through the airbox to be burned again. I disabled mine when going to a Uni, but since I'm using my stock pipe, I capped the pipe coming off the exhaust. So far, no problems. But when looking on SD about PAIR systems, Bashan mentioned this topic at SR. scooterrebels.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=alternativescooting&action=display&thread=718Apparently, jmkjr72 over there says that to disable this system, will clog the exhaust pipe. Any ideas? I don't care much. If I clog my pipe, I'll either gut the pipe or get a new pipe.

I have never owned or worked on a scoot with emissions equipment yet, so I have no first hand experience. I could see clogging being an issue with a 2 stroke. The catalytic converter (guessing here, since I've never seen what the Chinese use in a scoot) should be made up of a ceramic or metal web of honeycomb shaped passages. The passages are very small so I could see how a catalytic converter would get clogged easily by an oil burning two stroke over time. My solution would be to cut open the muffler assembly and remove the catalytic converter section from it. You can probably still retain the sound deadening capabilities pretty well still... or mod the muffler while you're there and make it loud. ;D

no problems with clogging, you can forget that one (at least for a 4t)
