I highly recommend the impact myself cause it's something you're gonna need down the road anyway to remove the clutch and flywheel but they do make another less expensive tool to hold the variator stationary. I have one and it does work but it's a hassle when you can just apply the impact and squeeze the trigger. The other tool with shipping is gonna cost you nearly as much as the impact so that's why I say just get the impact. Here's a link to the other tool. enviromoto.ecrater.com/p/5374715/ztr-variator-holder-tool-gy6-50

Check the flyers in the store if you do end up going with the Harbor Freight impact, sometimes they have a coupon for 20% off one item. Prob doesn't work with sale items, but worth a look. I've seen people use this one with success. I think the other that Hank posted is a better choice in the long run, but this is half the price. www.harborfreight.com/12-volt-1-2-half-inch-emergency-impact-wrench-92349.html

And btw thanks to everyone who have helped me in this endeavor! Hi The variator locking tool like the belt would have to be bought at a scooter shop or online. Its much easier to find an impact wrench locally, Pepboys and autozone loan out tools btw so thats an option as well Take care and ride safely Yours Hank

Fox you're a beast thank you. And inuyasha too. Does it cost to have the tool loaned out? And if I go to try to get a loaner do I have to have a 17mm socket for the impact driver?

You have to pay for the tool in full, then you get it all back when it's returned in good condition. I know that's how AutoZone's loan a tool program works anyway.

Yeah or you can just buy one and use it once and return it stating that it "failed to do the job" and get a full refund. I know that's not "politically correct" but it's another possibility.

Easier to do the loaner at that rate. You come back, put the tool on the counter and the receipt, they take a quick look and give your money back. No worries about explaining anything as long as you don't damage it.

No, it's just a different way of doing the same thing.
Either way there's a transaction and a refund and as long as the tool is given back in pristine condition then they can re-sell it so it's just different is all.

Here's an example of a guy that has the guts to explore even though he clearly doesn't know exactly what he's doing. That's how I learned.
