If you don't know, I got my scooter up and running after replacing the stator with a known working unit. In my excitement I slapped the scooter back together and purposely left out a crucial screw, because I was lazy. The fan cover came loose and made contact with the fan while I was on the highway doing 40 mph and cracked. My question is as the title suggests. Is it possible to run without the fan cover, or would overheating be an issue? Pictures included for some laughs. Click for larger view. The last image shows the screw that the fan cover slid off of, while the screw stayed on. Kinda went around the screw. Was wondering why I had all those extra washers... Edit: Oh and the reason it looks so shitty as that I had to stop at the gas station, buy some tape and then apply the tape to the dirty cover, all whilst shaking. 20 Degrees and 10pm. Ugh. Once again, I'm too lazy to fix it right now.

You absolutely must run the fan cover. Trust me. I tried to leave it off one time for a short tuning check of 1/2 mile or so and even in that time it got hot enough to melt part of the engine shroud that I had left on. If it gets that hot in 1/2 mile it probably wouldn't take long to really do some damage. If you can get it taped up in a way that it is secure and sealed to the engine shroud, do that until you can get a replacement. No matter how bad it looks, it's better than molten parts.

Ahhhhhhhhh really!!!!!!! When I took off my air filter I lost a part to bolt on the fan cover. Not that I LOST a part, but the air box was the part. Now my fan cover is sort of gaping open at one side. I'll have to get a bolt to go through the whole thing or ...something
I guess it is always good to look through the archives here!

I've really come to noticed how very important it is to keep these things cooled, both engine and transmission. I made a custom fan scoop using the tech section, and could honestly tell the difference in performance after. Also later noticed a HUGE amount of performance that was being robbed by the over heating CVT after I vented it.

I should try more experimenting with my fan. I tried a stock cover over my modded stock one and there did seem to be a difference in the two. Other than looks. I dont have a scoop to try tho..

I have more problems than I thought. There is a huge 3inch hole in the back of the fan cover. Not sure how it happened, but there it is and there was a clog of crap on the engine. A shoelace that I sucked in last year. I am willing to bet it overheated and I had a soft seize

Maybe the clunk you heard was a rock smacking that whole there, and you probably overheated :scared:
