First time dealing with anything bigger than a 139qmb... Picked up a used 125cc engine and I'm trying to get everything in working order so this will probably be the first of many questions for u 150ers out there. The engine was missing a kick lever so i replaced that with a spare I had. I gave it a go but it wouldnt spring back up and it didnt turn the flywheel. Took cvt cover off and discovered the kick starter spindle shaft spring was not attached to where it needed to be. So I fixed that and tried the mechanism again without the cvt cover and now it seems the kick idler gear only sometimes engages the starter gear but it is not a smooth transition ever. That's about all I had time to discover as the weather went south. Has anyone ever replaced a kick idler gear and if so, does it require taking the engine apart to replace? I found one on scrappy and theyre pretty cheap I just want to know what's involved before I purchase. I couldnt see a way of removing it at first glance. This engine btw is off a sym fiddle ii and the service manual was of no help on this one .

Rotate the gear so the section with no teeth is pointing at the crankshaft and then pull on it.
