Hi guys, my brother is having hard cold starts on his scoot. Its a 139qmb. I believe to be a faulty carb, or choke. Either way I'm replacing the whole thing. When i look on pfs, they have carbs with accelerator pumps and without. What are these? Also,i noticed his carb has no throttle clip adjustments. There is only one clip on the needle. Any carb recommendations and an explanation of what an accelerator pump is? Thanks!

Accelerator pumps gives a shot of fuel to help the engine from bogging when you open the throttle. It can be used to aid starting on really cold days.

do a valve adjustment before throwing parts at it

do a valve adjustment before throwing parts at it +10 I would also closely inspect the intake manifold... they seem to crack parallel to the clamp that holds the carb on (especially if over tightened). An accelerator pump gives it an extra shot of fuel, be it for starting, or compensating for a lean mixture on acceleration.

I was having the same problem. I would run my scooter for 20min, shut her off then go to start it right back up. I would crank for 30 seconds and no engine start. I wanna say its your accelerator pump, disconnect the air filter from the carb, have enough room to get your finger inside the carb, find the slide (black)usually. Push it to the top of the carb and crank it. You should feel it squirting gas and fire right up. Wanna know how I fixed it. I took a sledge hammer to the scoot, my 8th and final POS Chinese scooter. Went out and bought a 2012 zuma, haven't had a single issue or complaint in over 3000miles
