I just installed another 52mm Scrappy kit on a guys TaoTao 1P39QMB "6B" ,Secret,Magic,Super 63 Motor with a stock head. After what i learned on mine with the stock head,I installed 2 base gaskets, did a Dremel job on the Piston relief where it made contact and on the sides where it also made an ever so slight kiss mark on the heads compression bevel area. Set the valves, started it,and it was running within about 2 seconds. I was sitting idling and I walked away from it and put my head in the garage door to "Cock A Doodle Doo" My Success to my Wife and kids and as I was walking back to it,it died like it had run out of gas. I tried to start it again and it wouldn't run, acted like it quit getting fuel,I shot it with a start or starting fluid and again didn't fire,WTF,I say to myself. After I crank it for a few seconds,it makes a sound like it is drawing air through the Uni filter like a tire letting out pressure but a bit quieter until is bleeds off or releases or whatever...Anybody? Getting ready to go figure it out, just thought I would see if anyone has ever had this happen while I eat some chow. I will post the answer when I figure it out.Vegas

I have seen a few bad coils. Even ones that had spark, tried a new one and it started.

Not a Bad guess with the coil. It was a bad ground. On the TaoTao ATM50A1 Scooter, the main ground and aux ground (smaller wire of the two)are grounded on the top valve cover bolt on the right side of the bike. It is subjected to a fair amount of flexing as it gets all the action of the front pivot point for the motor. Bend any wire back and forth enough times and we all know what happens. I found it when I went back out to start it and kicked it over, when it fired it would try to die unless i gave it gas.I noticed the headlight was not getting any brighter so I held it at about 1500 rpms and started moving wires around until i saw the lights get brighter from getting charge voltage from the stator. The strands were actually broken inside the insulation. I cut the Ring connectors off, stripped them both back well past the area previously flexing, preset 6" of large heat shrink over both the soldered wire that i had made into one wire now, then with a mini torch ,heated it until solder had been drawn into the insulation at least an inch past the strip ,then crimped on a new connector and soldered the connector to the soldered wires until I got a good bond between the ring connector as well, this is overkill and requires some serious heat, don't try this with an iron or you will be there all day, heat shrink was shrunk and I have a pretty HD repair I don't see failing anytime soon. Can a mod please move this to troubleshooting or delete it or whatever? Thanks,Vegas

If you use marine wire on the wires that have a lot of movement, it will be an easy fix. Another idea is to turn the wire around a pencil so it looks like a spring. Clamp the wire ends near the connection points.

I got my scrappy 52mm installed with my hoca 50mm performance head used two base gaskets went without a hitch runs like a champ nice improvement in power over the ebay cheapie 50mm kit even the electric start fires it right up im starting to think the timing advance on the high performance cdi boxes is doing more to affect cranking over than anything. I can flip my kill switch and mine spins over fast but with it set to run.....cranking over struggles. and adjustable cdi is almost a must. Just a side note here, I changed the oil and cleaned the air filter and while i was at it i stuck a stock cdi on as a test. Sure enough I could hold the throttle wide open and hit the button ....VROOOOM!! With orangebox cdi, if you give it more than a small crack of the throttle it wont crank over. In my mind this confirms hard cranking due to the advanced timing of the orangebox. I left orangebox on tho because it does start if you give it no gas and i want every bit of power i can get
