I made this lockup last year for my scooter, since I don't have anyplace to store it indoors. I am glad I did, because thieves got 3 other scooters on my street last Saturday. They tried to take my buddies scooter which was locked to a trailer at my house, but they could not break the lock I had on it. They didn't even TRY to steal my scooter, I guess because of the lockup I made for it. It is fairly easy to make, and very effective I think. I used a pole from a childs swing set I found on the side of the road, a couple bags of regular cement, 1/2 bag of mortar mix, a piece of HEAVY chain, and 2 pieces of 6' rebar that will fit through the chain. Since the chain is the expensive part I bent each piece of rebar in half to make 2 hairpins to extend the chain down into the poles. On the lock side there are just 4 links of chain, and a hairpin. On the other side there is enough chain to reach across to the lock side, and a hairpin. The poles are in the ground about 2 1/2 ' , and set with about a bag of regular concrete each. I then mixed up the mortar real soupy, so I could easily pour it down the poles once i had the chain set just right. If you take your time, and look at the pictures closely, it will make it ultra easy to lock, and unlock.

It sure helps if you can chain it down to something. A few months ago they had quite a few scooters stolen from a local collage. some of them were locked up by the front wheel. They just picked them up and rolled them to a van on the back wheel!

talking about thieves, Someone stole my helmet last night first time anyone has missed with my scooter Around here, if its not bolted down, it's not safe!LoL I have 4 cameras, 1 of them is a pan, zoom, tilt, and a DVR. Theives still occasionally try using the cover of darkness. I keep my wifes TTR-125, my daughters xr-50, and the bicycles on the porch, all locked together. Mostly to protect the theives from ME!

Many years ago my mate stopped at a garage to check his tyre pressures. Took his helmet off and put it down by the bike, pumped his tyres up. Turned around and his helmet was gone! He thinks there was some kids hanging around and one of them must of taken it

As I was going through my old threads fixing picture links, I realized I never updated this thread!
Sadly this lockup was not as good as I thought it was. Someone, 2 people I figure was able to work the scooter out from under the chain. I can tell they laid it on its side cause there were some scratches on the bricks. They may have also deflated the front tire to get some more clearance.
I still use it to this day, I just added a chain to the front wheel which makes it harder to use.

make sure you use the ignition lock that tilts the wheel, really hard to roll when it goes in circles

cable lock from the rear wheel to the rear rack, and a short length of chain with a padlock through the front wheel, will hit the brake caliper if rolled

also a simple switch somewhere hidden and going to the cdi kill switch wire, will prevent anyone from hotwiring it and riding off, the bike will never start, I've thought about those lanyard things from watercraft, yank it out when you leave
