Running out of room in the bike shed...where - when we get a 2T - will it roost? Vespa GTS 250ie. Big & heavy for a scoot... Grandson takes the Navigator position for a Winter ride on the uncommon Honda PS250. Also big & heavy... Mrs rhm is only 5'; hers is the Honda Met, the only scoot she can flat-foot... Last, not strictly a scoot, but a Chinese copy of the old Honda CT70. Four-speed, 106.7cc. Old Science, bought as a 'learning' bike to acquire basic wrenching skilz...hah...gives me plenty of opportunity to gain repair/adjustment experience. Shown here getting a busted speedo cable replaced... Three are stored in a former garden shed; the CT70 clone is an outside dog, and stays under a tarp in the yard, chained to a tie-down sunk in concrete against marauders. Visiting a local 2T-only shop daily in hopes of finding a trashed 2T trade-in to work on - where will I keep it...?

Top notch scoots you've got there. I especially like the CT70 clone though. You should swap in and/or build a big displacement version of that engine... or at least a 114cc kit. I've had a lot of fun on midbikes and I've still got one in the garage.

A fellow CT enthusiast pointed me at a Lifan-made 140cc engine that's offered by TBolt for $399...he's done the swap, and reports that it is crazy fast. It also comes with the unusual 4-up shift pattern, rather then the same old 1N234 (but for some reason, the Tbolt site says otherwise...) tboltusa.com/store/product_info.php?cPath=114_119&products_id=382&osCsid=dfd531817286d253481b7348c4783c3fThis little piglet will still involuntarily wheelie my butt off the rear if I don't stay way forward on the seat. Looking for a cheap swingarm extension to move the COG back for that reason. I changed the factory 14T/42T sprockets for a more street-friendly 17T/34T. It's been an adventure - this bike came put together hand-tight - my PDI was deficient, and for a while, parts kept falling off as I rode...

I never built one larger than 114cc, but a friend got a 125cc GPX motor and put a 146cc kit on it. It would do 70MPH+ and constant wheelies. I would imagine it was higher compression than the 140 sold there, but it also came with a price tag that reflected the additional power.
As for the parts falling off, the bike just wants to go faster so it's shedding weight.

Yeah, and it makes me shed blood, too. Every last connector was loose on the thing, except for the rear axle nut, which was of the locking type, and festooned with a big booger of Chinese locktite. I had no impact wrench at the time, so I applied a ball peen hammer to the ratchet handle, but my aim wasn't terribly accurate... While waiting for the stitches to come out and working on the front hub, I re-learned the lesson about hot headers... Still, once tightened down and adjusted, it runs very well. When I get the replacement pinion gear for the speedo in, I'll let you know how fast...maybe 42 or so...but I'm told I look like a trained circus animal riding it...whence the term "monkey bikes"...

Ouch. Haven't hammered myself and caused stitches or anything yet, but I've got a scar on my leg that taught me not to wear shorts on a midbike. I built a heat shield for my exhaust right after that.
