Hey guys.. Got my CY50-B scooter yesterday, did a complete PDI (as complete as I could) and all is well so far except one or two small things. One of those things is I can't locate my VIN number on my new scoot. I read on the web it might be beneath the seat on some models, nope. Not anywhere they've said to look so far. No info on this on the Tao Tao US website, either. In order to register it on the Tao Tao website, I need the VIN number. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks again

Ok. Nevermind. I THINK I found it, right below the engine # on the left side. It has a star in front of the numbers and after it.

www.taotao.us/index.cfm/scooters/cy50-a/Usually, sitting on the scooter, directly ahead on the footboard, there is a small rectangular "pop out" (inch and a half X 4 inches?) the serial number should be behind there on a metal plate welded to the frame. On some Chinese scooters there is a id plate hung off the upper rear shock bolt.

^ this.
And shouldn't it be on the title or the certificate of origin?

I never got a title or certificate or origin, but I was told it would arrive seperately from the scooter.

Oh. Only problem is... how to open that little rectangular plastic piece without ripping it! Argh. I remember it being slightly opened when I first unpacked the scooter and while doing a once over, I secured it and snapped it shut. Any ideas on how to open it without ripping the plastic apart?

A thumbnail should open it or a flathead screwdrive. If it doesn't work from the top, try the bottom. Been on that first ride yet?

Veejay.. Yes! I spent all last night doing my own little PDI on the scoot, then this morning (voila!) my helmet arrived, via FedEx, just in time For my first ride I decided to go up to Pep Boys to get some supplies I needed (different ratchet), then, after an awesome taste of my scooter, I decided to keep going. I drove about 15 miles around near where I live and loved it It was a nice 65 degrees and sunny here in Albuquerque. Had a fantastic time, got the handle of my scooter's idle and what not, and just feeling the breeze on a sunny day on my scoot was well worth the wait and maintenance performed the night before. A great day of riding! I never knew what I was missing and i am loving being a scooter owner.

That's just great! I'm 63 and lovin' my scooter. I have to admit my confidence level is not where it needs to be. Having difficulty around turns so I take it super easy. Fell once, no harm, except a damaged ego. One thing I'm not going to do is mess with the brake oil as many say "why?" and it's a messy thing and involves "air" ... but gear oil change tomorrow. Glad you're havin' fun and survived PDI.
