How important is the rubber cap on the brake bleeder valve, and what would you replace it with? I am assuming it keeps the valve clean.

It's really not important. I'd leave it off. One of my scoots never had it. I've never worried about it. The only time it would make any difference is when you are bleeding brakes you might wanna spray it with a quick shot of brake cleaner or even compressed air just to make sure there's no debris that could possibly find it's way into your brake fluid. Most likely it wouldn't anyway.... you should be pushing fluid/air out when bleeding brakes, not sucking anything into the bleeder. If it bugs you, just pick up a vacuum cap that fits over it snug.

Thanks, even the little things may be important. I won't worry about it then. I'll be bleading the brakes on the Baron this week. Havn't needed to do it before but they feel a bit soft.

You can always put a glob of silicone sealer on there . It'll come off easily enough when and if the time comes to bleed them again. Just don't force it down into the fitting. A glob on the outside will suffice to keep out dirt and then you can just pull it off with two fingers should you need to bleed the brake again.

And the boss just offered me the leftover silicone from remodeling the store...that'll do. Thanks, don't know why the bell didn't ring, or lightbulbs flash in my head there.

Well, I bled the brake lines. And , just, wow. I had no idea how bad they were. I think I still need to replace the diaphram. Not torn, but warped some. There was a LOT of sludge in there. I soaked up the old stuff, wiped it clean, and flushed it till it ran clear, and felt tite. I also hosed her down good after, read brake fluid can do stuff to the plastics, etc...now I hope I don't stop so fast I throw myself over the handlebars ;D
