ok so i bought an 09 vip, it didnt have a carb on it so i put a new carb on it, a new batt and changed the oil. got it running fine but i knew there was a leak at the base cause when i sprayed it, it started running so much better. i figured that it really doesnt matter cause i was about to install a 100cc bbk from k-man auto. well now that its done it barely runs. so i bought a free flow air filter and a #90 main jet, didnt touch the exhaust. when i start it with the stock main jet, its hard to keep running! i have to keep working the throttle. ....later that day... well now its about 5 hours later and i took a drillbit the size of a sewing needle and bored out a hole in the pilot jet about the circumference of a #50 pilot jet and what do you know! its finally idling by itself! AWESOME! its still running a lil rough though. i think i need to adjust the valves..theyre at .003.. and maybe the camshaft timing i will go forward one notch in the chain then back two and see whats best. if still nothing i will bore the hole a lil wider. i ordered #78-100 main jets but i think im gonna get the #30-50 idle jets also just to know what specifically works for my new scooter. i also have a 09 peace sports 80cc bbk. anyway any input would be greatly appreciated. there are a few members opinions on here i really respect so when you fellas get a chance tell me what you think..... thanks, robbie

Many use an extra base gasket or shim as the BBKs have much higher compression

.003" on the valve clearance should be fine. I'd think it's likely your carb just needs to be tuned still. A popular pilot jet size is 38 with the open filter. Might be too big now. You can try to adjust the idle mix and see if it improves, but I think the pilot jet kit is a good idea. If you can't get anywhere with the carb, not a bad idea to make sure your grounds are good, connection in the ignition are secure, and the spark plug looks OK.

90GTVert, yeah i was thinking the same thing. the stock pilot jet was 30, i have an extra carb so i took the pilot off of that one. i already bored the hole a lil bigger but i havent put it in yet so i will see how that works out. it should be fine though, but on the other hand, it is a neccessity to get that pilot jet set. you know i adjusted the air\fuel screw all the way in and out but it didnt make a bit of difference.

If the air screw isn't doing anything, you're either way off or something is dirty/malfunctioning in the carb or possibly a vacuum leak. If you have the stock airbox, maybe use the stock pilot and 90 main that you have and see how that does till the rest of the jets arrive.
