I just read this entire thread (in 2 days) and nice work!
I have recently torn apart my brothers Strada RX-8 as it was collecting dust in the garage and this gave me some good info.
Q: On the CVT cover, do you have a large hold on the inside, bottom part near the clutch? My brothers has one and a filter near the front. I would like to avoid having to use the plastic CVT cover to protect those holes and filter element. Do you modify the CVT cover?
I know it's an old thread bump, nice read. Any updates please post them. Thanks

I'll take some pictures and post some updates soon. Just recently got a new camera.
I removed the parts (filter, plastic, brackets) on my cvt cover for heat dispersion. I know, at least in my experience with this 1E40QMB-A engine, that the cvt gets really hot on long rides. I have holes, yes. I also added holes to help with the heat transfer.
Looks exactly the same as my strada. Even had the same grips as you, with the metal. I replaced those immediately due to issues.
Happy to help with any questions/issues you might have.
