I am interested in a large frame 2 stroke. Looking at purchasing on line and could use a recommendation for a reputable dealer that ships scooters. Any names come to mind?

I checked out a lot of online dealers before I bought my scoot and had some pretty bad experiences. I won't mention any names but I can tell you this.. After weeks of frustration, of calls and emails not returned, I finally called the the manufacturer home office and I requested the top volume, most trusted dealer that they sell to. They recommended my dealer (Killer motorsports) www.killermotorsports.com/These guys rock! Returned my calls, answered all my questions and had my bike to me quick. But here is what I found out... It doesn't matter who I purchased from. I paid killer for the scoot and it ended up being shipped to me from a shop in Georgia? lol! Now to me, that's nuttier than squirrel poo, but oh well, I was just happy to get it regardless.

Good thinking speaking directly to the manufacturer, or at least distributor. Hard to know who you are really dealing with since some "manufacturers" actually get their scoots shipped in with the badges they requested on them from the real manufacturer.
I think the majority of online scooter sellers are just dropshippers these days. I saw one that says they aren't a dropshipper, but yet they have no way of sending the paperwork until you receive the scooter and let them know the VIN. If it's in your warehouse, why can't you check the VIN? That cardboard box around the crate isn't exactly tough to open and reseal.
I have been looking around lately and I can tell you to make sure you read all the fine print. I know when comparing prices I found that some places had $50 extra fees for delivering to my state (and I'm in MD... not AK or HI). Some have fees you don't see until checkout. I've seen them claim to have free residential lift gate service... then add on a residential delivery fee at checkout. Some of them have some high restocking fees. For example they say that if you refuse delivery on a $650 scooter because it's damaged, you'll pay a $200 restocking fee. I'm sure there's all sorts of stuff to look out for, but when you think you've found the right place I would say go over all the info you can find on their site and do searches for their company looking for BBB ratings and reviews.

Yes! I'm glad you reminded me of some things Brent... They always say never refuse shipping and I understand that because they have to then pay return. So even if it arrives damaged just accept the cargo. The drop shipping thing is huge! You are right on target with that, Lot's of online guys are too small and can't hold that kind of inventory. Try to order from someone with an actual dealership. Service after the sale is crucial. Now here's the funny part... Haggle your butt off! I ended up, not only knocking off $200 the retail cost of the bike, but finally In the end I only payed $400 over dealer cost and shipping was free lol! I kept getting lower and lower quotes. Starting with the $1,800 retail and going from dealer to dealer on the phone telling them that JoeBlow up the road just beat your price, now what? and they would go lower. I must have called a circle of 7 different companies making them compete for my business. What should have cost $1,800 + $300 shipping ($2,100) I ended up paying a grand total of ($1,600) that's free shipping and $200 off retail, lol! I saved myself over $500 dollars from making a few calls and doing some research.

Im also still playing with the idea of weather or not i should try and order a "el cheapo" model from the site you listed Twistedburnout or just heading down to a licensed kymco dealer near me and picking up a new super 8. I currently own a tank sporty 50 framed scooter with a longcase 150cc gy6 swapped in but im now in the market for a real 50cc to upgrade etc due to the local sheriffs catching on to my "too fast" 50 along with warnings of getting it impounded = /. Might give the guys over at killermotorsports.com a try....good thing i got the tank swapped scoot for like 300 bucks over on craigslist, any ideas on what model on killermotorsports would be the best for an 80cc upgrade and CDI rollers etc?

Anything you get in a Chinese scooter will prob be similar to your current Tank. Expect to do a PDI and basically be on your own once it arrives at your door. The Super 8 is a well built scoot, not to mention looks great, and if you've got a good dealer they'll go over it before you get your hands on it and they will provide a warranty on parts and and do the labor. If you plan to start modding immediately, then all you're getting is the quality scoot from the Kymco, because your dealer won't be honoring the warranty at that point. I'm happy with my Chinese scoots, but I don't mind working on them and understand what I'm getting. Think about how your experience has been with your Tank, and if you'd wanna repeat it or possibly worse. Unfortunately, the quality control issues mean some people seem to get scoots that just need routine maintenance out of the crate and others end up with a lot of headaches.
For which Chinese model would accept a big bore and upgrades, I think they're about even. I'd worry more about what body style you like or what you think fits you best, if larger wheels are worth more money to you, stuff like that.

Also, if you plan on riding faster than a 50 is supposed to go you may still have trouble with the local law enforcement. I know at least in my area there is a scooter speed limit and even if it's a 49cc it's not legal to exceed it. I do, but you can bet I hit the brakes whenever I see a cop. lol

IMO I would decide exactly what model it is in the cheaper scooters that you prefer and then to save some money get on the phone at start the process of knocking down the cost to yourself on that exact model and make them compete for your business.
If you want a good cheap scooter I would suggest maybe a Tao Tao. If you tell me what the maximum amount you want to spend on it, that would help make it easier to find you a decent one.

I ordered a TaoTao ATM50-A1 a few days ago for $695 total w/residential delivery and liftgate (they added charges at checkout not shown elsewhere) from familygokarts.com. Still seemed like a pretty good deal to me. Can't find them much cheaper anywhere. provenpowersports.com had them a little cheaper (although I had not been through their checkout to see if anything is added), but they had so many reviews saying they could not get their paperwork that I didn't want to deal with them. It's only been a few days though, so I can't recommend them yet. They were easy to deal with and friendly on the phone, and I have a tracking number already (shipped from TaoTaoUSA in TX, so dropshipped). That's about all I know ATM. Hoping it's a hassle free experience and my paperwork arrives quickly after I provide them my VIN.
There was one on eBay that may be cheaper for you. My state had a $50 extra charge for delivery from them though, so they would have been $725 for me. It was only one scooter and the seller had no more listed. Lemme see if it's still up. They had a good feedback score at least.
EDIT : I don't see it now, so I guess that one sold.

Yeah, I never dealt with proven power sport either, I was just giving him a starting point for haggling, lol! And yes check reviews like Brent said, that's a another great way to double check company reliability and ethics. You bought a new Tao? Awesome man! I can't wait to see it, what color is it?
