I have just been informed by a master mechanic and former racer that all 4T should NEVER spray foam oil on they're foam filters, UNI etc.. "FOAM OIL IS FOR 2T ONLY!" 4T's run dry. I hope thread saves some people a few headaches. Attachments:

This is a new one to me. What is the logic behind it? UNI says to oil their filters, and does not specify "only for 2T". The oil is there to increase the filtration ability. The only bad thing I recall hearing about oiling filters is regarding over-oiling on vehicles with mass air flow sensors (which our scoots don't have).

He was telling me to run dry because a 2T and a 4T are much different intakes. He said that 2T's are basically twice as powerful, and suck in almost twice as much air as a 4T, and that they need that extra protection a lot more than a 4T would. He says air reduction from an oiled filter would not affect a 2T like it would a 4T with the same filter. Also he was saying that he was concerned that I had a double layer UNI and that maybe I should just run the single one and leave the outer layer off for better air induction. Made sense to me, I don't know, just thought it was good info, that's all, lol!

The oil is what catches the dirt. Someone just gave you some extremely bad advice.

I think it depends on the type of foam your filter is made of and the type of roads you ride on. Some foam filters are more dense than others. Stock 4T filters have a thin layer of coarse foam on top of a thicker layer of fine foam. If you ride on dirt a lot then oil is a good thing but for pavement riding I don't think it's absolutely necessary. ʇwiƨtɘdburnout said he has a double layered filter so I'm guessing it has coarse on top of fine. This is a coarse filter: This is a fine filter:

He said my air intake was not powerful enough to suck in a lot of dirt especially like a 2T would, and that it needs and I quote "good air" After that he said my double layer UNI was and I quote "Overkill" and that it would run worse with it layered. especially if it's quote again "saturated with foam oil" He gave me a great analogy, he said, lol! and I quote... "Imagine an engine is like a persons respiratory system, lungs, throat. If I choke you in your throat even just a little then your breathing becomes labored and you get dizzy and cough and will pass out eventually from no air. If I give you to much oxygen you will become hyper-ventilated and go into convulsions. all 4 strokes are born naturally with emphysema thanks to California and have special oxygen needs" That was what I can remember from the conversation.

a persons respiratory system doesnt have cylinder walls and piston rings lol. To each his own, I will always use oil.

a persons respiratory system doesnt have cylinder walls and piston rings lol Oh yes we do, I beg to differ good sir, lol! cylinder walls = cell walls, artery walls(John Ritter died from a torn/ripped Aorta = Fuel system failure) Piston rings = (Elvis blew a Head gasket, straining too hard on the toilet = over revving) Oil Pressure = Blood Pressure (too much at you will get leaks in the system) Intake = mouth (Works with vacuum system and will kill engine with no air) Exhaust = butt (Dangerous hot gases escaping from internal combustion) Overflow = urine (Too much liquid in the system) Vacuum lines = Breathing (Works with intake, Without air the whole engine dies) Carburetor = Heart (A little dirt will clog and stop it, and it may need to be replaced or cleaned) Tires = Shoes Jack Daniels = High Octane booster Bacardi 151 = Nitrous Lool!

Carburetor = Heart
wouldnt your heart be water pump and lungs be carburetor?

Now that you mention it, heart would be petcock actually, and yes I'll go with lungs for that, air, moisture, intake, exhaust...sounds good, makes sense, Hmmmm, yes I like it, lol! No, wait!...! What if I'm air cooled!
