I have acquired quite a few "stock" weights over the past couple years from various 50cc scooters so yesterday I went and got a cheapy Harbor Freight digital scale and weighed them all individually and what I found was: Some are 6.5 gram +/- .1 grams, and some are 8.5 gram +/- .1 grams The point of this post is: You can't trust that all the factories use the same weights in their scooters so a scale is a MUST-HAVE item in your arsenal. That scale looks kinda the same mine but mine doesn't have a lighted display. I like the fake weed in the pic.

I think they're using them to weigh sugar or flour or something in some other listings.

That's what I did with the stock ones on my Derbi. Originally 7g now 4.5g. Still using drilled factory weights after 8000+ miles and no flat spots.

I use mine all the time like in the pic. Ya see im a fulltime drugdealer and prostitute aid on the side. I use the scales to weigh my product, never thought about using them for my scooter parts! Good idea! ......

I just saw the thread in the troubleshooting board mentioning the two different case sizes, and it reminded me of this thread. Is there a pattern here between which weights came from which engines?
It seems like the long case GY6 would have a longer CVT belt. The long belt would need to be more tightly tensioned than the shorter one, so it would need a stiffer contra spring. And then it would need heavier weights to overcome the stiffer contra spring.
But that's all just guesswork.

There may be some logic to it, and what you are saying makes sense.... but with a lot of Chinese scoots the theory is they use whatever is available or cheapest when they're built. One thing that throws your theory off, at least for minarelli engines, is that my long case scoots had 4g rollers and my short case had 5g rollers. Both had the same contra. I have a feeling it's gonna work the same way on the GY6, but I haven't tuned enough of their transmissions to know. Also, if the scoots with heavier rollers had stiffer contras, they should be performing closer to the scoots that come with lighter rollers and "standard" contras.

I think Brent is right, just depends on what box of weights they had come in that day and that is what they used.
