A friend of mine has a CPI Oliver City 50cc it started out would run for a few minutes then die had to keep the throttle open to keep it running tried adjusting the carb air mixture screw 2 1/2 turns out then messed with the idle screw still would die so cleaned the carb it will idle now but can ride it about 15 feet and it will idle real high turn the idle screw down and it wants to die turn it back up a little at a time idles real high what else can we try to get this to run right ?

do you have it warmed up before you tune it?! if its like most of these it has an electric choke that opens after a few minutes of riding.

have you taken apart the head? i just had one that would idle fine then die when you tried to rev it up... the base gasket had torn and was sucking air... i guess maybe the better question is have you checked for leaks? crank seals are a fairly common problem. if possible i would try to do a leak down test.

No haven't taken the head off or checked for leaks he said it lost power climbing hills

It will idle fine now but when you go a little but it just revs high have to turn the idle screw down but seems to want to die till you turn it back up then idles fine till you try to take off again will have him check for leaks though

could an exhaust leak cause the high idle I know it needs and exhaust gasket
