i ordered a Crankshaft for my scooter last week and it came in the mail today. i started to put everything together and found out that they had sent me the wrong sized bearings with the crank... like way too big. my question is this - if i take the bearings off an older crank shaft am i screwing myself? will the used bearings be ok handling the 10,000+ rpms that i plan on hitting this crank with?
not bashing them but it was a stuffed crank ordered from AutoTech355 and im just wondering if i can salvage my weekend plans or if i need to wait for replacements.

I prefer to replace them. Not expensive enough to be worth taking the cases apart early and doing it all over if they aren't in the condition I thought. What bearings are on it? Most use 6204 and you can prob pick up a pair at a local auto parts place. If you do wish to reuse an old set ensure that they spin freely and quietly, show no signs of corrosion, no damage/scarring, no discoloration, and don't feel sloppy.

good call on replacing them... one of the ones i had started making alot of noise after i sprayed it down with some pb blaster. drove around all morning trying to find a 6204.. everyones got 6203's but on 04's so i guess im just going to order them on e-bay - just going to have to push this engine build back a week

I've ordered several things from Treatland and always appreciated the quick shipping but their prices seemed to have taken a pretty good leap in the last year or so. Of course before that I wondered how they could keep prices so low...

those things have pretty awesome specs, but i dont think i can justify putting 50 bucks into bearings. i bought some that operate up to 17k rpm's for 3.75 cents shipped from some cali supplier. for what im building i dont expect to have issues.

I have been wrenching over 40 years now. One thing I have learned is if a parts cost $20.00 - 40.00, and along comes one for $3.75 shipped? I smell tuna.

tell you what - ive worked in the automotive field for 10 years and ive seen bolts that we sold as a single for 20.00 or you can stop down at menards and get 50 for 20.00 - all im saying is that yes im sure those bearings are better, but are they 500% better? as long as they come in and function as designed they shouldnt be an issue. this isnt an uber aggressive build. you can buy the Escalade - im buying a Tahoe

But a lot of parts companies are putting SKF/NTN bearing in cute boxes. Look at the number on the bearings. They are generally 6204-c3 or 6204-c4, stage6 polini or malossi they are generally the same thing in a branded package. If there is other letters/numbers after the 6204 (here I'm talking about the teflon cages and those kind of bearings that are more expensive), go to a local bearing shop with the bearing number and they can get them for a way lower price than the ones in a cute branded box.

A little update - I sent Carlos a message that night and he responded right away and asked me to take a picture of the bearings i recieved. On Monday he shipped 2 bearings and 2 sets of rollers express and they will be in tomorrow. Amazing service! Ive always had good luck ordering from him and never had a problem till this order. Being a service\sales guy myself i cant express how much i appreciate the effort.
So now ive got an extra set of bearings - no problem with that!

you can buy the Escalade - im buying a Tahoe Escalades actually come with many different options that Tahoes aren't available with, including a special high output 6 liter motor and all-wheel drive instead of selectable 4-drive. While they both look the same, and share the basic chassis, a Tahoe will never be an Escalade. And a cheap bearing will never be a high-quality expensive bearing haha.
