I don't know what it is, maybe just me but I have a helluva time tuning these minarelli engines. This is my sixth different minarelli 2 stroke scoot. Everyone I've owned has been a dog on takeoff (with the exception of my little Yamaha Jog) and kickass at top speed but my current scooter is the worst by far. I won't even get into my initial problems with it. My current problem is that it bogs down when I try to takeoff. Unless I'm sitting on at the top of at least a small hill to where I can get a rolling start, I'm not going anywhere. I've tried 3 different stock carbs and am currently trying to dial in a 19mm Arreche . The Arreche was working pretty good until I changed out my stock triple springs for some red ones. I figured if I did that my clutch would grab at higher RPMs and give me a little bit quicker takeoff. I don't think that's causing me to stand still at takeoff though. The only other thing I can think of besides tuning the carb is that my belt is too big. All my other scooters like this one had a 788 17 28 size in them. This belt is the stock belt but it's a 792 16.6 something or other. Would that be causing some kind of problem ? I really like this scoot but I'm starting to think it does'nt like me.

I've had trouble with bogging on takeoff and remedied it with a spacer in the variator. My scoots both use 788 17 28 Bando belts. I removed the restrictor washers and then the belts were too wide to go all the way down in the variator. I went to to the local hadware store and found washers that would fit in the front face of the variator where the restrictor used to be. They are thinner than the restrictor washer, but just thick enough to let the belt travel down farhter. You can but variator tuning washers if you can't find something like that at the hardware store. I've only seen the tuning washers overseas though, so definitely try hardware stores. Modify a washer if you have to (drill out the center larger or grind down the outer diameter).
If it is OK when you first start riding and gets worse, it could be your clutch getting too hot. Whne the clutch gets hot it will usually engage earlier than it should. I don't really think it's that though, because it should have improved to some degree when you added 2K clutch springs. The 2K springs could still do it though. They slip more and would actually heat up the clutch faster. If this is the case, I'd suggest venting the CVT cover. It makes a big difference in heat buildup.
Of course you also wanna be sure your carburetor is in tune. Boost bottles are not a cure for this problem, this is something that should be remedied by tuning, but they can give you a little more throttle response at lower RPM and improve idle.

Well I tried putting a spacer in the variator and I'll be damned if it did'nt work! That got my confidence up a little so I put a yellow contra spring in and it seems to be running even better. Before I put the spacer in I checked and you were right, the belt was not going all the way down. I really appreciate the help. I was just about ready to put this scoot on CraigsList. I would never in a million years guessed that would have been the problem. I have ADD and sometimes I have a hard time grasping these tuning issues. I've got the scooter bug though so I'm not gonna quit trying. Thank goodness for you guys and your Knowledge. It was a helluva lot easier dialing in the carb after getting that straightened out let me tell ya.

Glad it helped. That particular problem baffled me for a little while too. It's amazing how a simple thing can make so much difference.
