usmcdoc, Do you have a web site or where do you sell your parts? I am interested in a bbk and perhaps a cam for a Tao Tao ATM50-A Thanks, Billy No web site...and just getting back into the parts/repair business. I had several medical issues and other situations occur that took me down for awhile. Got another shop..but right now I am only ordering parts as needed for customer repairs..because it is getting cold up here in Michigan and I seem to be one of the very few that ride all year around. Funny cause we get no colder on a Scooter than we do on a Snowmobile..so I ride all winter.. I can give you a link to a friends website. I have known them personally for many years and 'user tested' nearly every part they stock. All their stuff is great quality..and the prices are unreal. The BBK's come with a BBK head and even a performance Cam! Here check this page out..then look at the rest of the stuff on their site. www.scooter-atvparts.com/scooter-72cc-big-bore-kitEnjoy... Glenn

Would you use the rings that come with that kit? I have read that the rings are not very good in most of these bbks.

Would you use the rings that come with that kit? I have read that the rings are not very good in most of these bbks. I use the rings that come with those kits...yes. I 'User Tested' every BBK they sell for the 50 and 150 engines on customer Scoots that could not afford to buy a BBK. The kits were free to me to test..so I let the customer have them free and only charged a tiny amount for labor. Many are at 6,000+ miles with no ring issues and 2 folks are at 10,000+ without issues. It is the same kit and manufacturer that I get from my wholesaler. They just get them cheaper because they purchase in lots of 100-200..whereas I only purchase one at a time.. this time of year if needed..but in the spring I order them a dozen at a time.(still costs me a bit more) But that is why their price is so low..cause they buy in bulk. It in no way reflects the quality..just because they sell them cheaper. There are good quality kits on Ebay as well..but off hand I cannot remember the vendors names..but many here can fill you in on that info...which is important to know as I have seen some Ebay kits that looked and worked like they were made by a High School kid in Metal Shop Class with a Hammer and worn out Dremel Tool..lol. Glenn,
I know this is difficult to answer but about what speed could I expect to get with that BBK if I did nothing else to my scooter? I weigh about 180.
I really don't know much about carburetors although I have rebuilt them on lawn equipment and it still runs. I know if the mixture gets too lean it can cause serious damage.

Glenn, I know this is difficult to answer but about what speed could I expect to get with that BBK if I did nothing else to my scooter? I weigh about 180. I really don't know much about carburetors although I have rebuilt them on lawn equipment and it still runs. I know if the mixture gets too lean it can cause serious damage. That depends on your altitude...air/fuel mixture rate...overall gear ratio...tire size (circumference)..10" or 12" tires? Your torque spring and CVT slider weights make a difference too. As many here will tell ya..their are too many variables that will affect your top speed. I can tell you the setup I have..but it is only what my scoot will do with the parts and tuning I have done to it. It is a 2014 TaoTao Thunder with their 80 BBK..one of their GY6 50 performance variators(which have longer and steeper ramps) Their 7 gram 16x13 slider weights..and this performance pipe from them... www.scooter-atvparts.com/50cc-gy6-scooter-performance-exhaust-blackI also use a stock airbox with a #90 main jet.... I use a 1.5k clutch springs and a 1k torque spring..again cheap priced items..and here is the link to those. Shipping is included from this site..http://www.gy6store.com/PERFORMANCE-1500-RPM-CLUTCH-SPRINGS-FOR-50cc-QMB139-MOTORS-1500-RPM-CLUTCH-SPRINGS-50cc.htm and I use this as well.. www.gy6store.com/PERFORMANCE-1000-RPM-TORQUE-SPRING-FOR-50cc-QMB139-MOTORS-1000-RPM-TORQUE-SPRING-50.htm Typically I get all my parts from my wholesaler..but this time of year they are usually out almost everything..and this time they were. So I got the parts from the website above because as I had mentioned...I have 'User Tested' nearly every part they stock..so they could get feedback on what they sold. I knew it was quality at a super low price..so that is what I used. I never use so called 'Top of the line name brand parts' because my 2 wholesalers..one in China and one in Taiwan told me they sell to those 'name brand' companies..they same products they sell other vendors. The only difference is that 'No name' brand items do not have a company logo stamped or embossed on them and many times you are only paying 2-3 times more because of the name brand logo on it. So ya see..all the parts I use are low cost 'no name' items..yet they work as well as parts I have paid 3 times the price for in the past. Anyway...about top speed. I use the parts above and I live right about Sea level.. My primary gears are the standard 52/16 which is a 3.25:1. My secondary gears are the stock ones that come with 12" wheel TaoTao Thunder and they are 52/14 which is 3.71:1 making my final ratio 12.07:1 or so. Common stock final ratio for most 4T Scoots is 11.05:1 So you can see that my ratio is of a lower gearing than those with 10" wheels and this is because my wheels are 12" therefore a bigger circumference they would turn slower due to size..such as a Tractor tire vs a Car tire. With this cheap and ultra generic setup..my Scoot will carry my 150 lb 5' 8" frame at 45-48GPS(flat level roadway) depending on wind and road conditions. My nephew is 5' 10" and weighs 190lbs..he gets 42-44mph with it. It can go faster yes..but I would have to 'up gear' like a customer did. He replaced his 52/14 secondary gears with the standard 51/15 gears. This makes his final ratio 11.05:1 compared to my stock ratio of 12.07:1 but to get the best results from his higher ratio he had to go from 7 gram rollers to 6 gram rollers..thus allowing the engine to rev faster and higher due to the load produced by a higher ratio. Make any sense now? Or is it clear as mud? If you only add a BBK and find the right roller weight combo..I normally see a much faster take off and top speed gain of 8-10mph..but the engine is revving a bit higher. Not so high as to be critical..but you will see it with a Tach and can even hear the difference. Anyway..so there ya have it my brother. Give the BBK a try..we all love them..and THE best bang for the buck.. Glenn

Wanna sponsor/co-sponsor a metal melding fire crazed knucklehead?? Hoping to get it rolling/rideable chassis by the 25th for (?display?) Street Vibrations 2014 Fall Rally.
