Good evening all, new member here hailing from NC. I'm new to Chinese scooters and like most of you, I got bit by the scooter bug. It started a few months ago while arguing with a neighbor. He was thinking he could buy a $300 car to last him for six months while he looked for work. Young men always want to argue with experience because they lack it. So I mentioned to him that for $300 he was better off buying a scooter. He actually took it seriously and started looking for one. Since I like the kid, I helped looking for one as well for him. I located one on CL and we went to inspect it. Come to find out he didn't have the money either. The scooter was mechanically okay and for $150 I thought it was worth the purchase price. I bought it for him on the promise that he will pay me back and he eventually did. So we got it home and began looking on the internet for maintenance information and discovered this wonderful site. Since it was a lot of fun playing with that first one, I kept an eye out another one, this time for myself. Mine came to me by accident. I guess it was Karma. I went to a gentleman's home where he stockpyles junk he buys at auctions and along his building there was a scooter. When I asked him about it, he replied, I wnat to get rid of that piece of junk. His brother in law had purchased it new, drove it for six months and dumped it in a culvert. After that he was too afraid to drive it and it took up residence along that building. He gave it to me and I stuffed most of it in the trunk of my Kia Rio. So I got it home and began stripping it down and going through it. This is where the story begins.
A little abouy myself. I'm a hobby machinist as well as a machinist by trade. Recently retired from the Navy. My other hobbies include restoring old firearms, reloading, and working on motorcycles. Being in the trade, I have taken the opportunity over the years to collect the tools and machinery necessary for working with metal at home. I f anyone has questions I can answer that are metalworking related, I would be more than happy to contribute some advise or personal knowledge. I'm usually found at rimfirecentral, hobbymachinist, or practicalmachinist, metalillness, under the same screen name, so if you see me say hi.
I have found an unknown picture on the intenet that has blown my mind. It's of a rat rod styled scooter. My goals and intention is to replicate one along it's lines. I'll try to post a picture hoping someone has information on it.
