I've read on some high performance forums about how important it is to keep the muffler packing in top shape, seems that as the packing wears out the volume gets larger causing a possible lean running which could lead to a holed piston.I'm real slack in this department, perhaps thats why a scoot will change its tuning with age...

I know it can make a big difference in sound, never really thought about it affecting performance. I'm also pretty slack there. I've got bags of FMF packing hanging around, and have only repacked one silencer one time. The Leo Vince has lots of miles on it, I should probably redo it. Thanks for the tip.

Or............. pack it with stainless steel wool.
1) it's louder (but sometimes it's best not to be too quiet!), but not too loud. 2) it doesn't burn out 3) it worked on large 2 strokes in the 70's 4) you can buy it in ANY hardware store
