I'm horrible about keeping up with news, current events, and politics so I didn't even realize it was that bad. The fact that Halliburton is involved bugs me as well.
I think they should definitely use hay. That stuffs too dangerous to keep around on land. Just make sure it's tied down in transport.

As great as the idea sounds, wonder how much hay it would take to cover that area? They said it's 86 miles out and they said it's coming ashore in spots. Sorry, I'm naive here.... Does that mean we can assume there is a 172 mile diameter that needs attention, or is it mostly heading toward land because of currents or the tide or whatever? I have a hard time even comprehending 172 miles of oil. That's roughly 23,000 square miles... so it would be kinda like covering the entire state of West Virgina with hay.

Did you ever wonder why that oil is underground like it is? I don't mean so we could use it as fuel but couldn't it be that it's there as a shock absorber or a buffer between the molten magma and the crust? It saddens me that a vein in mother earth has been nicked and our Govt. is allowing her to bleed out in the gulf of mexico; it's very sad.

I was watching the news tonight and someone from Pensacola, FL said this is bad timing with the tourist season just getting into swing. WTF? That's like someone in Nagasaki finding out Fat Man was on it's way down and saying, "Well, this is just bad timing." That's a little extreme, but you know what I'm saying.

The fact is I like gasoline and oil. It's great stuff. I wish it weren't so risky to get to it. There was one guy calling the shots on that rig when it blew. He should go to jail for at least 5 years and the BP brass should all get some serious jail time too. They are probably going to file bankruptcy so they won't have to pay all the reparation costs and once again the taxpayers will be stuck with another multi-billion dollar bill. Meanwhile, BP will restructure itself and come back stronger than ever. Did you know that BP owns Arco? They also own the following: www.bp.com/extendedsectiongenericarticle.do?categoryId=9&contentId=7046348What really burns me up is that MMS. They were supposed to be regulating but instead they were feeding from the oil companies teets. Corruption. Pure and simple. The same thing goes on with the big drug companies and the FDA. The FDA gets a lot of it's funding directly from the pharmaceutical companies. Talk about a conflict of interest. The GOP calls the Dems, big spenders but on their watch we tripled the national debt and got into two overseas wars that are costing billions per month. The bottom line is that there is a lot of mis-informed and/or ignorant people in this country who vote against their own best interests if they vote at all. There's still a movement in this country that believes Barack Obama is not a US citizen. Did you know that Bush Sr. sits on the board of the Carlyle Group? They build tanks and guns and bombs and drill for oil. War is good for business. Just ask Dick Cheney. www.carlyle.com/Portfolio/Industry/item8223.html I watch the news a lot and I could go on and on but I won't.

Yeah, be careful watching all the "news" :spin: . I just hope somehow, somebody, anybody will get this leak slowed to a stop soon. Gonna take all looooonnngggg time to 'mop' this up. Thats the bottom line. We could point fingers all day, still wont change the fact that there is oil flowing into the ocean until WE stop it

Yeah, be careful watching all the "news" Yeah well you have to watch everything in order to sift through the BS. It's a lot of smoke and mirrors and if you aren't a healthy skeptic when you ingest it then you'll believe one voice over all the rest and then you become a puppet instead of a free thinking individual. This world is a cesspool of corruption and greed. The only reason we aren't all a bunch of poor indigents like what they have in Bangladesh is because enough time hasn't passed yet but I'm sure there's a think tank out there somewhere that wants to completely disable the middle class and turn us all into poor laborers. I know it sounds like a whack-o conspiracy theorist ranting I know but look at what's happening. Is your bank account swelling? Do you have zero debt? Are you in line for a promotion? Does your future look rosy? Is your house worth more than when you bought it? etc... etc... etc...

I never knew about the '79 incident either.
It's amazing how much turmoil is caused by trying to speed up the money heading toward already deep pockets.
