a majority of them 11/2 in on the header, and many of them appear stock 1 in pipe for the first turn then get bigger. Will you get the same performance out either one? Is the greater pipe always best. i am working with a stock head that has been ported a little

1" or 1.5" I.D. should work just fine. The aftermarket pipes I've seen tend to be thinner metal than the stock pipe, so even a 1" O.D. aftermarket pipe may be larger inside than the stock pipe if it's 1" O.D.. Most exhaust ports aren't gonna be much bigger than maybe 19mm (.75") when ported unless you have really knocked out a lot of material or you have a ported big valve head. They don't need to be matched to the port. According to A. Graham Bell's 4 Stroke Performance Tuning, a step in the port/header size will reduce exhaust gas backflow.

My experience is that a lot of manufacturers use the word "performance" as a euphemism for "faster" when the product in question is only made to last longer than the factory part it replaces.
In other words, "Performance" can be defined in more than one way so buyer beware!
Semantics...

well im not planning on buying i plan on making. and was wondering if i could use the stock header untill the 90 degree bend and increasing the pipe diameter before my muffler. just lots of experimenting trying to get all i can out of those little 50cc. I have currently free flow intake, A9 cam, lots of polishing on the intake manifold, a little port and polishing on the head, as well as match porting the intake and exhaust. Performance coil and NGK, no limit cdi(which i plan on swapping for a more aggressive one). i have a bigger carb im waiting to install as well

The average aftermarket pipe helps a little. Nothing like a 2T. The LV pipes look like good quality. BBK would be the best bang for the buck and help you WAY more with those hills.

You can get a BBK for less than that pipe and rollers when it comes time.

I was at the understanding that a lot of the Kymco 50cc 4Ts were 50cc GY6s. If that's true, you can get BBKs all over. Never saw anyone build one. I was looking into a crank out of a Kymco for my SunL's GY6... before I decided the 4T just wasn't worth more time and money than I already had invested. Others have said they are the same thing as a 139QMB, but better quality parts. I really don't know, so don't take my advice if you'd heard otherwise from someone that has messed with teh Kymco 4Ts.

You are correct, Brent. The Kymco 50cc 4T's are your basic 139QMB made with better quality metal and to better tolerances. Polini do in fact make a 47mm BBK for them, but there are plenty others available. This is a pic of the engine of one, familiar? www.scootertherapy.com/agility50.JPG
