Heres the deal: My MBK Nitro (year 1997), when reaching certain RPM, would feel like it lost spark, or fuel, as you wish, aka it stops accelerating and actually brakes with the engine, and would only stop doing so if I was part-throttle instead of full-throttle. Also made a weird "grinding" sound when losing power. Is this a cdi restriction? If so, is there a way I can remove this restriction without actually changing the cdi? If not, what can it be? I was running a stock cylinder with a stock dellorto carb and a giannelli next pipe.
Thanks in advance

sounds like its running alittle lean on the top end or you really do have a restriction. have you removed the ring on the variator yet

Yes i had. Meanwhile I've disassembled the whole engine due to a low end failure (was meant to happen since i got the bike), and I'll start to assemble the engine tomorrow. That's why I remembered to ask this question now. Anyway, I was running that pipe with the stock jet (don't blame me, got the bike like this already :\), so I was indeed thinking I was running lean, but the spark plug color said otherwise...

I have never heard of any Aerox/Nitro having a restricted cdi. The pipe is not a very high revving pipe so even if it was restricted it would not matter. The giannelli next makes peak power at 8,500 rpm and goes quite flat after that www.pedparts.co.uk/c/asset/sports-pipe-blog/50cc.png

Yeah I thought it could be the exhaust aswell but if you search for example on pedparts they have replacements for the old cdi and say that it's restricted around 10krpm so..

Aerox's electrics changed in 2004, so the newer cdis might not come restricted? However Im hoping its indeed not restricted. Also supporting that is that a friend has a bws from the same year, same type of cdi, and its not restricted. It makes no sense that yamaha/mbk would restrict the aerox but not the bws...

i doubt its restricted in the cdi, if its lean on the top end it will seem like it cutts in and out really fast

That about explains what used to happen... Hoping it's only that

i can't say exactly when the cdi limits. but 100% not with a standard cylinder. it sounds more like a leaking engine. I would recommend going through the joints in the crankcase, at the same time tightening the spark plug, checking for leaks, in the cylinder gaskets. but at worst it could be your cylinder. if you didnt jet it in probely, when you changed to gianelli exhaust, it has received too little oil and petrol while you have been driving, and then you destroy the piston/cylinder. one more small thing that is good to be aware of is that if the engine is leaking, it also gets too little petrol/oil. so it is not a good idea to drive on
just forgot something, the valve is also a good idea to check. the engine might be leaking, through the plates in the valve
