Just bought an old scooter from my neighbor. Its got about 7000 miles on it but still runs...sometimes. His kid used it as a daily for at least 2 years, then he bought a car and it sat in the garage for a year or two. He had it in his front yard with a sign for 100 bucks obo. I have always wanted one, so I couldn't refuse the offer. It starts easier the less I ride it. The turn signals and brake lights weren't working until I really hit the gas so I replaced the battery, which fixed that problem. While I was at it I figured I'd grab a spark plug. After I installed the battery it ran fine, then I shut it off, tried to start it again and nothing. I took out the spark plug, which was covered in oil, put the new one in and it started right up, but constantly wants to die out on me unless I give it gas. My next step is going to be cleaning the carb. I have searched everywhere for guidance in this issue to no avail. Any pointers for me? Am headed in the rightdirection? I know where it is and all that, but what do I remove to get to it, and remove it for cleaning, I don't want to damage it any more than it is. Thanks in advance!

Sometimes the service manuals can be of help. If it's the sr 50, I think this is the proper service manual for it (covering model years 88 through 01): www.hondaspree.net/other/SA50_88-02_service.pdfI don't have much more to add, but hope this helps

Good plan to clean the carb. Since the plug is covered in oil you may want to check over the oil injection system.

Welcome to the forum. I would defiantly give the carb a clean if it has been standing for a long time.

Great buy. This scoot is inexpensive to tune with great aftermarket parts availability. Worst part is that danged front drum brake.
