I got the right flywheel puller, but I am still not budging the flywheel, just spinning it. My question is , has anyone used an impact wrench with the puller, or should I try it? Or, just get/make a holder. :stumped: I had to gap the pickup again, and after it's been worn from hitting the reluctor I don't trust it much. I'd like to get a look at the stator, and get another one ordered and on hand.

Goosey, Once I put the puller in, and once the bolt is screwed in(on my puller), and everything is tight----I had to hit the allen wrench(where it bends 90 degrees) I had in the bolt(that touches the crankshaft) with a rubber mallet and it popped right off. Like this: Hope it helps. Frosty.

Thanks for the suggestion. I used a steering wheel puller on two other engine flywheels, this one is a bugger. Now if I can find out who used my rubber mallet...

I do it the same way as shadowman. There has only been 1 flywheel that I couldn't get off that way, and I posted about that here some time ago.

LOL, yes I remember it well. This one is just stuck. I found the rubber mallet today, the cat punted it off the work bench under some stuff. I will try it on saturday. Basicaly your giving it an impact kinda wonk then. I hate messing with it when it's running, but it failed to start a couple days ago and I had to mess with the gap again to get the spark back...just don't trust it to get me to work, and my kid is done with school, I can finally ride : )

Yeah, I hit the allen bolt head on----not clockwise/counter-clockwise. Like driving a nail right into the crank. :thumb:

I actually tap it in the direction of rotation for that last little jolt.

A little 'light' tapping with a light hammer on the rotor itself should be helpful too.

3 good wonks did the trick. Went with the direction of the rotation. Took me another half hour and some 3in1 oil to get the remover out of the flywheel, Thanks for the suggestions guys. I would hazard a guess that using the impact wrench would have stuck the remover in the flywheel REAL good :scared:

Yup, got the new stator ordered, hope it gets here before the rainy weather is done. There was a good bit of extra metal on the reluctor, that came off of the pickup. I filed the extra metal off the flywheel. It works, but...
