I got the new stator today, when I put it in I put it solder side in, realized later that the previous stator was installed solder side out. When I started it up the headlight blew out. So did I install the stator backwards, or is the new stator a dud :zap:
P.S. the old stator is ok, but the magnet on the pickup seems to stick out farther than on the new one. Probably why it would come in contact with the flywheel and stall. File it down a notch and go with the old one?

Well I'll see what happens this afternoon when I can get to it again. I'm just going to flip it, and see if the other side of the bulb goes. (the high or low beam, whichever is left)

I've always just looked at them and installed them the same way. I'm not sure if it would matter or not. I would guess no.

I'll let you know if it makes any difference. There is no indicator on the stators, other than the old one had a magic marker X on it that I noticed when I pulled it. Kinda a pain if the new stator is over charging. Hate spending my $ on standart parts, and worse when they come broke, and cause more issues. If the seat didn't hold the plastics in place on my scoot I could see the point of not connecting them. A faster clip for the battery would be nice too.

Didn't make a difference. Flipped it and still blew the light. I compared the two stators and the new one is built heavier, may have more output than the retros can take. I basially looked for the same number of poles, wires, and 150cc. Now I see there are different measurements to consider. The original stator looks more like what I've seen for a 50cc. I put the old one back in, and now have to find some new bulbs. The headlight is common enough, but the tail/brake light is not so easy. 12v 10/5w

Hey Goosey, if you want to save some cash you can wire up a cheap light socket with a regular auto bulb from a 99¢ store to test with so it doesn't cost much if you blow a bulb. Sockets are available at any auto supply. They look something like this: Bulbs are cheap:

Why were you changing the stator?
Maybe when you put the stator in backwards you blew your rectifier, and now that even though you switched it back to normal, the rectifier is already damaged and won't be able to do it's job of lowering the current from the stator. Try to see how much voltage your getting from the headlight and tail light harnesses at high revs with a multimeter. If it's over 14dc, you probably have a blown regulator.

The problem was really with the pickup. It came out too far, and had been hitting the flywheel. Before I found the problem it had caused the scooter to stall when hot, and eventually it would lose the gap and lose spark. I adjusted the gap again, ran for a weak then had to do it again, but it had worn part of the metal from the magnet off, and built up the reluctor on the flywheel. I ended up filing the excess metal off the flywheel reluctor, and evened out the maganet ( it had worn at a slant ) and hope it did the trick. As it was the stator worked, but was not reliable. Really hate pulling things apart in parking lots to get her going. I'll get the voltometer out tonight and see what my voltage is. I thought about the rectifier, really hope not. Got a short work day today , and the rain stopped, have time to check it, and look through my box's for bulbs and rectifier, may still have both packed away. For now I am off to work. ( since the evil Baron is temp out of service I may just borrow some things from him, shhh ) If the stator still has problems, I was thinking to swap the pickups from the new stator that I can't use

Well the rectifier/regulator is fine. Found a taillight bulb. Not the same watt as the other, but it was the bulb that was in the other scoot, same tail light assembly so, nothing ventured nothing gained? It works. Now I am waiting on the headlight bulbs. She's starting nice, first shot of the button. I probably took off a MM on the pickup. So we shall see if it works out. I am going to compare this stator to one sold for a 50cc. Got one for less than 15$ on ebay, just got to know. As I said, The other scooter got a new engine last year, the stator that came with the engine also blew the lights. I ended up swapping the original to solve the problem. Something good to know about this model.

Update, The scooter was still inadvertently losing spark, so after eliminating again, the relay, coil, plug, & cdi, I ordered another stator. This time I looked very carefully at the pictures when I ordered, both stators shown advertised as "GY6 150cc 8 coil, 3 plug 2 wires...the left stator is the one that blew my lights out, the right stator matched my old one perfectly, notice the differences? I was FINALY able to ride the beasty to work today

It's amazing how many differences there are when you are looking for parts for these things.

Thing is that I had the same issue with the Baron when I replaced the engine last year, new engine , new stator. That case I just swapped out the old one. Never noticed the difference. Now I know these things are wired funny, and can only take the lighter stator. And that there are different types out there.

HAVING TO REPLACE THE STATOR ON A GY6.SAW YOUR PROBLEM AND I'M NOW WONDERING IF YOU COULD GIVE ME THE LINK TO THE CORRECT STATOR.

Wish it was that simple Search GY6 stator, or GY6 solenoid, look for the one that looks just like the old one, specify 150cc, or 50cc,...look closely at the pictures for the wiring. Don't specify scooter, ATV's also use the same GY6 engine. Always check feedback profile...

I am having fun and games with my 2-stroke 2009 Genuine RoughHouse 50 stator also. I ordered one from Scooterworks that their sales guy said would fit my RH 50, but in reality it is slightly different. The meat of the coils looks identical, but it must have a different number of copper wraps around the coils, because when I installed it, the scooter is not running right. It makes a baby fart backfire noise as I ride it. Also, sometimes I will start it and the rear wheel spins BACKWARDS, so I have to turn it off and restart it once or twice until it runs forwards again, so the timing is off. Also, when I kickstart it (which I have to do since the battery was dying...or stator not charging it), the driveshaft seems to have moved just a touch, so the mechanism is no longer properly aligned and not working smoothly. Another clue was the connector plug was a different shape, so I half suspected I was in for problems. Lesson learned is, make sure your new stator matches EXACTLY......and that is hard to do when dopes at the other end of the phone or internet feed you misinformation!
