Is it possible to start a scooter with a broken or chipped or bent reed?
If it is how do they run?

Usually makes them harder to impossible to start at normal cranking speeds. Usually makes for somewhat sluggish running depending on the severity of 'back-flow' leak.

My engine flooded when I broke 1 reed petal. I could get it to start if I cleared out the cylinder for a second, then it would drown the plug again.

I finally gathered the courage to remove my carb. I took it all apart and cleaned it and blew it out with compressed air. Amazingly everything looked great. It must have been recently rebuilt.
Since the carb was off and the scoot was up on blocks I removed the intake and reed cage too. Everything looked good there too. I cleaned a bit of crap from the cage and cleaned up the metal reeds but they are straight and fine. My reeds look tiny and so thin. Maybe all of them are, and pictures just fool my eye, but I was amazed. They are 32mm long by 30mm wide total but each reed is 14mm wide. Is that about average? The total orifice is 30mmx32mm.
I wish something was wrong, I really wanted to find something there so that I would know what the problem was. One problem I had while removing the reed cage. I tore the gasket. I hope I can get a new one at the shop tomorrow. It tore right where the two halves of the case come together. There may have been a leak there. the two halves dont match up great. I can feel a bump between the two. should I take a file to it?
I used a file to match the intake to the carb, and smoothed out some of the roughness. Not extreme like many people do. I just had a bit of sand paper and my finger, but I took out a lot of the rough stuff. I ordered some carbon fibre material from SIP to make some new reeds, so I'll open it up again when it all gets here.
In the meantime are there any simple reed mods that I could try. If my shop has one I can buy as a spare, I might try doubling up the reeds, and when the carbon fibre gets here I might cut one big reed and try removing the central pillar. but only if I have one to return back to stock.

I don't know what this tube is: It goes from a small nipple near the slide, to the cover on the auto enricher. But it just goes into the cover. The tube was cracked, should I replace it?

A vacuum tube going to the auto enricher...? Got me. I would replace any tube that was cracked.

If it only goes into the cover and is not sealed off somewhere it's either a vent of some sort or someone has engineered their very own vacuum leak. lol
