HELP!! VALVES & CAM TIMING

Ok, so i just installed my 72cc kit on my 4 stroke and i am not getting good compression. it is sporatic... one sec it'll be running ok and the next min it is hesitating. what should i make my valve clearance .005 inches? or bigger? and also i may have reversed the cam when i put it back on because i didn't check the cam before i pulled it off i just lined up the "t" on the case and i pulled the cam so i may have put it on upside down. would i know ? would my engine even start? but i am wondering what i should do? any help would be greatly appreciated! The cam is installed so that the holes in the sprocket are aligned as shown in the following link.
If the cam is installed just one tooth off in either direction the scooter will run like crap. It has to be right.

The cam is the problem. i have lined it up right but the problem is when i took the cam off i didnt see if i needed to give the engine one more turn to turn the cam so that the three holes are sticking up i might have pulled it out with it being upside down but im not sure it fired right up after install but is running like crap. will that cam upside down affect my timing?

If the three holes are in the right position with the T mark ligned up on the flywheel then it's right.

Have you played with the idle jet air mixture screw? It will make a world of difference if it's idling rough.
