It's a beautiful day for a ride, so I decided to open up the Roadrunner and install the 12g Dr. Pulley's just for fun. While I'm in there start cleaning things up a bit. I am pretty sure, but wanted to verify with you guys, that the clutch bell should not be lined with grease. Am I right? Because I cleaned it and the shoes off with degreaser. It was really covered in it. Isn't the only grease supposed to be in the center where the bearing is? The bell is also really smooth. I think I have seen some of them here with a texture to them? Would you sand some texture there or leave it alone? I also can see I have some room for belt travel from the belt marks on the variator. Think I will be going with that performance clutch pully next, when I feel like spending more than I can afford, and see what happens.

Definitely don't apply grease to the clutch shoes or bell. They need all the traction they can get. I usually use brake parts cleaner on them. I use emery paper to scuff the shoes and the bell's lining.
Apply grease only to the needle bearing inside the rear pulley where it rides on the driveshaft.

That is what I thought. Thanks for the speedy reply. Glad I cleaned it then. I have some fine wet/dry paper I'll use on it. Wow, I wonder how different it will feel now without all that grease in there. I quess I never pulled the clutch in the Roadrunner before.

It's normal for the bell to be smooth as glass. I put grease on the needle bearing once on my blue 50 and it all flew out and got all over the bell and the belt. it made made it slip bad. I barely made it home so if you do put grease on that bearing just put a little bit. There's grease on the inside of the clutch that lubes that bearing so I don't think it needs to be greased at all. IMPORTANT: Only use brake cleaner on the pads. Other solvents can ruin the pads

K. Sometime in factory it was greased real good then. As in there was a layer of grease all the way around the inside of the bell. The pads looked shiny and new. Suppose because they were just slipping around in there. It didn't seem to have affected the belt :paranoid: , and the belt dust on the variator side wiped out ok, the clutch side took some degreaser to wipe clean, I had to resort to cleaning the cover with dish detergent to get the grease out though. I should have taken pictures, oh well. Wierd thing is the clutch pully, and the rest looked pretty clean. It just looked like they greased the bell . I know Fox, you mentioned before about the grease spreading from the bearing, so I didn't think it should be there. Wanted to check. I hope I didn't do any damage to the pads with my degreaser :scared: That said, I am happy with the Dr. Pulley's. Havn't weighed the old rollers yet, but I put in 12g, and the rollers felt slightly lighter. I got cought in a downpour on my test run, started at the bottom of the test hill, had to take it too slow cuz the rain was blinding me  . I shoulda hightailed it back when I saw the cloud, but too stubborn ;D Felt smooth from take off to full throttle. She was a little jumpy for my taste at take off before, with old rollers. Stayed between 55-57 ( this was on my way back after the rain stopped ). Is the popcorn sound a good thing?
