Got bored. Went on 75 mile trip on Derbi.

While looking at the weather on the web I saw a strange named community (Jakajones, near point D)I had never heard of some twenty-odd miles from where I live. So after a refreshing brief rain I decided to check it out as well as some highways I rarely travel. I stopped about 5 times for about 10-15 minutes altogether to look at the map and take in the sights. The trip planner suggested a driving time of 2 hours 18 minutes. I made it in about 2 hours 35 minutes. The reason I claim 75 miles over the 74.5 miles from the map is I drove down to a launch ramp and back on the Little Missouri River between pts. F & G... about a 0.5 mile side trip on gravel I estimated. Around 13 miles of the trip was gravel.

I love the way my scooter runs on the pipe at light throttle at around 52 mph. It just hums and seems very quiet and runs very smoothly and I can't even hear the exhaust pulses. Only got passed by one cager BTW. Sorry no pix and I'm figuring I should have gotten 60+ mpg since I went to a leaner needle. I'll fill up tomorrow and report.

BTW. Jakajones was not even on my very detailed (shows every pig trail) 11X14 123 page map of Arkansas. I think there were 3 houses there.

Glad to hear your scoot is running good and you got your leaner needle you needed. I need a leaner needle also but i am planning on a whole diff carb so i have held off on buying one for the Mikuni.

It's good to go prepared. I hastily put together my tool set and after I'd been on the road for a few miles I realized I had not included my spark plug wrench. So I couldn't do a plug check.

Sounds fun. I take as many long trips as I can on my scoot. You kinda hate to go home after beign out on a nice day or especially a nice summer night.

Ok. I just very accurately checked my gas mileage. Turned out to be 53.57 mpg. Not quite as good as I expected and even about 3 mpg less than with my old "richer" needle. The difference could have been due to riding on 13 miles of gravel roads on this last trip. I figure the jostling of the fuel in the bowl on the rough roads may make for richer running. Also, running at those lower speeds "off the pipe" may let more unburned charge escape out the exhaust.

And I wish I had your headlights. Then I could really enjoy the night bugs ;D on these shiny whites!
