Riding in town I rarely have any problems with cagers. I however live about 5 miles from my "town" . When I'm riding in rural areas I swear I almost get ran over by some impatient asshole about once a week. It happened again today with some jackass in a pick up who had been behind me for about a mile going 45 mph. he just couldn't wait an extra 5 seconds for the oncoming traffic to pass so he practically ran me into the ditch making sure he didn't cross the double yellow line. Then to top it all, he flips me off and turns left onto another road a quarter of a mile later. At that point it was a good thing I couldn't catch up with the prick I guess.

One day a cop will see that dude pass on a double yellow and nail his ass. Hopefully its a cop that rides and has a 15 year old kid that rides a scoot..... Glad you didnt wreck and get hurt by a fn turd late for nothin. I swear the faster a scooter can "safely" go the better off the rider is. I used to get a bit nervous with the stock 49cc and a bunch of traffic. Now i just cruise, if they get to close i can get away from em(in town anyway). I think they should punish people like that by putting them on a Honda Spree in rush hour(scooter hater) traffic and see how long they last.

Sometimes it doesn't even matter if your scooter does go faster than "normal". The only difference is that if I can go the speed limit, screw 'em. I take the whole lane. Even if I couldn't go the speed limit, if there's no shoulder I'll take the whole lane so they don't do that crap.
I was riding at 61-62MPH last week in front of a truck on a backroad with no shoulder and a speed limit of 50MPH. He just had to get right up on me, I guess because I'm on a scooter. I've never had that at 60MPH in a car on that road. I finally got him to back off in some 20-30MPH corners that most people really do 40MPH on. I think after going through the corners faster than he wanted to he realised I'm fast enough that he doesn't need to push me?

That is a good point 90GTVert. One of my problems is that I always hug the white line just to be courteous. Next time I'm in that situation I'm riding in the center of my lane and I don't give a damn who it pisses off. In North Carolina your scooter or moped cannot exceed 30 mph on a straightaway. I'd just like to know how many serious injuries or worse some of these speed laws have caused. Their is a bill in NC legislature right now that would up that speed limit to 50mph for under 50cc scooters. I doubt it will get passed but man, that's one bill that actually makes sense. I do it anyway because I'd rather be able to get the hell out of the way if I need to. If I get a ticket then so be it. It would be nice for it to be legal though.

I hear ya, im not supposed to be going 50+ around here either. I really dont break the speed limit much, i just like the extra power 0 to whatever. Also being able to cruise with traffic and not holding it up from a stop light is good. Ive seen some poor ass scooters around here...

I got your point, just saying some folks would wanna tailgate you at 100MPH just 'cause it's a scoot.
The speed limit for a scooter is 30MPH here in MD too... I'm just too stupid to obey it. lol

I just keep puttin' along! F' em in they can't wait! LOL Since I work a 4-12 shift I don't have too drive in rush hour traffic. But I usually stay on smaller roads where the speed limit is not very high. I always ride full on in my lane just to the left of center (out of all the oil & debris). Which in Florida the law specifically states that you do not ride on the right side near or on the shoulder. The reason being because some jerk will try too pass you in the same lane and run you off the road. Which sounds like what happened to you. I always ride to the left so they have to pull into the other lane to pass. So far its worked (knock on wood ) But you never know about some people you just gotta watch out for the nut jobs. We have so many retiree's here whose sight and reactions times are fast fading so you always have to be on your toes. Especially in the winter, then its really bad.

I was just on talking about how I'm too stupid to obey the speed limit, then I went out last night for about 70 miles and drove closer to it than usual, around 40MPH. You could really tell it was the end of the month last night. I saw a cop on my way to one town on my road, then plenty of cops in town with people pulled over. Then I went to another town and took a back road by a friends's house and there was a cop with someone pulled over down there. Then in the other twon there was a town cop and 2 state troopers. One the way back I sped up for a brief moment to avoid getting ran over where the shoulder dissapears for a few hundred feet. I looked down as I passed under some lights and I was going 58MPH. I let off the gas and the car I had sped up to stay out of the way of was a state trooper. Luckily he kept going. Got back into the first town and saw more people pulled over. Passed another cop on the road back to my house. I'm sure to anyone in a city, seeing that many cops is no big deal... around here I might see 1 person pulled over on a ride like that and a couple of cops normally.
That said, I did manage to get up to 65.22MPH, finally over the 65 mark. I aslos messed with some cars. I was sitting at a red light with 2 lanes going straight. The right lane has to merge a little bit up the road. I was the first vehicle in the left lane. Being a fat guy on a scoot, I got one person behind me and everyone else pulled into the right lane to go past me when I snuck off the line. Suprise, I took off and left everyone about 4 cars back. lol Now I look back and see all these people merging bakc in behind me and the lead car floored it and sped past me to show off the power of his Sunfire. lol Oh, I chased a Corolla with euro lights and Z3 fenders that were unpainted around town trying to get him to race but of course they wouldn't do anything. Sorry, it's off topic... but it does reinforce my original statement that I'm too stupid to obey all the laws around here.
