So I've change a great deal of parts on my scooter since the last post. I swap jets in the carb, went down to a 90 and seemed to have solved the running and burping concerns. Two weeks ago I got the ncy trans combo kit, 6g sliders and the polini Kevlar belt. here it is 250 miles later and the belt is shredded :banghead: you can imagine my frustration. the only thing that is stock is the rear drive pulley but it doesn't appear to be damaged. I didn't install the ncy torque spring face because I felt the belt would Ride funny with the new face on one side and the old face on the other. also didn't really know how to disassemble the two components. the ncy kit only came with the clutch itself and now I think I should replace the whole pulley assembly. I also noticed a strange noise, almost like a rattle from the trans when I approach a hill from wot. seems a little hesitant to downshift. Any advice would be great,I can't keep changing these belts, its driving me crazy. not to mention it makes for a long walk. Thanks, -Kyle

Are you sure the rattle is coming from the trans. Since this rattle is at WOT under load, it makes me suspect that it may be spark knock. If something is rattling when you are at WOT in the transmission, that's probably the issue. Maybe try rev it on the center stand or something to see if you ever hear this rattle in the CVT. Being hesitant to downshift could be related to the stiffness of the contra spring or the roller weight being too heavy. If you go through THIS thread, I show some ways to look for belt issues. Bando belts seemed to fix my problem. You can get them from scrappydogscooters.com cheap and fast if you are interested in trying one. You don't really need to have a matching half to that NCY rear pulley. If you did, they probably woulda thrown it in. HERE is how to take that apart.

I'm running the lightest contra spring ncy made, so I don't beleive thats the issue. I also felt 6g roller weight are on the lighter side. Someone told me the trans is getting too hot, and thats the only way the kevlar belt was shreading. This person told me that he was going through belts as well and the only way he was able to fix it was to richen the engine mixture to cool off the crankshaft. this seemed a little strange to me. think I might try venting the case and testing it on some cheap belts.

Venting the CVT cover can make the CVT run much cooler. Running the engine rich wouldn't make much difference in the CVT unless he had it so hot before that he nearly melted his engine or something.

I thought about venting my cover also. But was wondering about road stuff like small rocks and dirt. That kind of stuff. Would small mesh screen work to cover the holes after there cut out.

You could use screen, but I don't feel that it's really necessary. 7,000 miles on one Triton with big holes in the bottom of the cover and vents by the clutch : no issues. 1,300 miles on the 4 stroke with a couple of really big holes : no issues. Not sure how many miles, but another 2T with half the cover removed : no issues. Maybe if you spend a lot of time on gravel roads or something like that, it might be necessary?

I think I'll start looking at opening it up some.
