It's amazing what a silly mm will do.
I know I kinda bragged about my tranny belt having 7000 mi. on it but I've been suspecting that it is over it's wear limit as far as width is concerned and I was right. This Piaggio motor on this thing has made figuring out the proper belt width a little problematic. I mistakenly had the wrong data for my my belt. It is supposed to be 18 mm wide instead of 17. The belt on earlier (before 2002 w/Derbi built motors) used a 17 mm wide belt. But I knew it was revving faster than it used to at the same speed.
Any way I found a thread on the Scootertime forum with the proper dimensions (the same as a Piaggio Typhoon) which is 805/18/28.
I ordered me an oem one from Athens Scooter Co. for $33.90 (10% discount) delivered and got it and put it on today. I deglazed my clutch shoes and roughed up my bell a bit and put a bit of grease in my electric starter shaft and clutch shaft carrier bushings, checked the rollers... they were still slick with graphite, put the cover back on (15 bolts) and went for a ride out on the hwy. Before she would only do about 56 but now she shows me a solid 60. My speedo is pretty accurate once you learn how to read it (60 is the mark past 60 etc.).
I was having a good day til my Bro. and I drove to the distant wet county (I envy you Yanks) only to find out that a 30 of Bud Lite would cost $1.55 more than it did the last time we purchased.
That's life I guess? You gotta take th' good with th' bad.
Need to start brewing my own, I guess.
