Hi everyone, My name is Joshua Leonard and i recently joined this forum today. I joined because i have an old xcooter thunder sitting in my yard and i want to restore it and make it better. it is sentimental value from my little brother who recently passed 2 years ago. He always tried to fix the bike but never knew what it needed. i need someone to take a look at it.I have visited a professional shop already and got some news that they couldn't do anything. very disappointing from high quality mechanics id have to say. So this is my project scooter and id like help from you all who are willing. thanks guys! for further information i can email you pictures because my files are too large.

Sorry about your brother. From what I see on a quick search this is the small 49cc scooter that's more similar to a push scooter with an engine. It's not what we typically deal with here, but I used to have an old midbike with I think the same or similar engine. I'll be glad to offer any advice I can and I'd imagine others will too. You can send me pics so I can post them. 49ccscoot@comcast.net Any details you can give us on what issues it has would be helpful.

The last pics shows the engine has a busted flywheel. Not sure how that would have happened unless it was ran without the engine shrouds. Here's an example of the flywheel/fan. There are variations of those engines, so I'm not totally sure which you have and which will work for you. scooterparts4less.com/web_gas/motor_fan.htmYou'll need basic tools plus a flywheel puller to do that job. Before buying anything I would consider pulling the cylinder off and looking at the cylinder and piston for any signs of damage or heavy wear. At least remove the spark plug and shine a light in there. If there are other signs of damage and you still want to restore it, you may consider a whole engine. I see them on eBay for about $100 up. There are different transmission styles and I've never worked on any with a belt so I'm not sure exactly what's up there, if it's an easy swap or not. You may want to try asking on goped or pocketbike forums. Older midbikes (larger pocket bikes) had similar engines. www.pocketbikeplanet.com is one forum where you may find better help. Feel free to stay here and post as well, but I just don't know the ins and outs of those engines to give good advice on all of it.

That engine appears to resemble a chainsaw/weedeater engine. Perhaps ( and this is a big maybe) your local lawn equipment mechanic may be able to help. I have three different chainsaw crank assemblies with flywheels if one would fit I'd send it your way. Dig up some info on the engine and pm me ir post crank dimensions as well ad bore. Also I have an assortment of diaphram carbs mostly Walboro. Just let me kniw if I could help. Wait dont think the crank will work bcuz if clutch end threads. The carb may tho, just ley me know.

Welcome to the forums. I'll echo 2stroked thoughts, looks a lot like a small lawn equipment motor. The busted flywheel will need to get replaced at the least, and I'd take the carb off and clean it out too (remove carb, take off bulb, then soak carb in cleaner for a while). The problem here is going to be finding parts and info. The site from the sticker on the engine is gone, but I found what looks like the old site using the internet archive. Here's a link to the site contents for that machine (I think): web.archive.org/web/20040202033713/http://www.xcooter.com/xc1000atx.shtmlLooks pretty similar to the pics you posted. If it is the right model, then it's a 41.5 cc motor. I'd try starting with this info and checking for similar bikes w/ the same motor type as a source for parts. If you can find one used or the parts needed on ebay. Here's a link to an engine, not sure if it's the right one, seller listed xcooter thunder as one of the machines it went in and it'd be the right size: www.ebay.com/itm/Eton-IXL-40-RASCAL-41-5cc-atv-engine-cobra-ths-Chuweng-xcooter-thunder-nuke-/321068088995Good luck on this project. If you need other info or something looked up I'll try to help in tracking it down.
