I really hate start a new thread over something as trivial as this.... but after todays endeavors, im left with no option really...
Anyway, I have an 05 zip GT5, and the key have (on that little switchblade like contraption) popped off... I was lucky as hell to find it again.
I went to a hardware store to get an extra made, and the didnt have the right blank for it.... then I went to a locksmith... said he could open it for me, but didnt have a proper 'blank' to get me another key either....
My question; how in Sam HELL! do you get a proper replacement key for a vento scooter?
Thanks in advance.

I have a local locksmith who had to use a key from a Ford, filed down in a machine. It's the only key he had that was made the way these Vento keys are. I ended up getting the Ford key made. Cost me around $5. Then I took a hacksaw and a few files and a drillpress to make it fit where the original key goes. That's probably your best bet. See if they have anything from a Ford that would even remotely look the same, and have them file it down to the right thickness. I'll take pics of my key if you want a reference?

It's hard to tell from the picture, but I drew in red what the key should look like head-on. there was only ONE key in the whole shop, that was made that way. It ended up being that Ford key. Every other key was the opposite way:

I went to Lowes and Home Depot. Both places failed in finding a match.
As for the link that Goosey provided - That looks like the key off of my 150 Tank. Not sure if it's a 150 specific key, or a Tank specific key. Both of my Mina keys are the same shape - which won't fit in the Tank, and vise versa. What would be really helpful is getting in touch with a scooter manufacturer that could send out blanks in bulk to one of us that could provide for the rest... I'm willing, if anyone has any information.
I wonder if the shop didn't have the blanks, but you provided a blank for them, could they match the key for you? I'm assuming yes after the link that Goosey provided.

grrr
I never in my life thought it would be this difficult to get someone to replicate a freaking SCOOTER key!?!?! Went to a locksmith near home, and he told me what the other guy did.... "i can open up a lock for you, but I cant make that key."
:sighs: I did ask him about using a Ford key... he looked at me like i was from Mars or something lol.

Yea, that key is good for some of the GY6, 50 and 150. They told him that wouldn't work too. Gotta find a key maker that will think outside the box.

Gotta find a key maker that will think outside the box. That's the "key" But seriously though, the guy I had took about half an hour trying to find a key that would work before he came up with that solution. I don't think any other key place around here couldve done it, much less even thought of it.
